COUNSELOR LICENSED CHEMICAL DEPENDENCYJOB DESCRIPTION

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The mission of Metrocare Services is to serve our neighbors with developmental or mental health challenges by helping them find lives that are meaningful and satisfying. We are an agency committed to quality gender-responsive, trauma-informed care to individuals experiencing serious mental illness, development disabilities, and co-occurring disorders. Metrocare programs focus on the issues that matter most in the lives of the children, families and adults we serve. The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Metrocare is part of the Cohen Veterans Network, a national nonprofit (501c3) network of clinics creating an opportunity for Veterans and their families to receive free or low-cost outpatient mental health treatment. With a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, licensed chemical dependency counselors, case managers, and veteran outreach workers, the clinic will provide evidence-based, individually-tailored outpatient mental health treatment tailored to meet the specific needs of Veterans, particularly post-9/11, and their families. www.CohenVeteransNetwork.org

The Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor provides direct client care by assessing chemical dependency and providing related services to veterans and their families. With growth of this ground-breaking clinic, training and supervision involvement will increase.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts chemical dependency assessment to clarify related treatment plan and goals
  • Provide individual and group treatment for substance abuse as well as tobacco cessation
  • Implement objective measurement tools to track treatment outcome.
  • Maintain all necessary documentation.
  • Collaborate with case managers and treatment team to provide comprehensive care.
  • Contributes to reports required by the Cohen Veterans Network.
  • Assist with training and research as needed.
  • Provision of occasional community presentations related to the mission of the clinic
  • Attends all treatment team staffings and is alert to opportunities for promoting/providing psychosocial rehabilitation or use of community resources for clients.
  • Assists with on-call services in accordance with clinic procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Master degree with two years experience, or Bachelor degree with four years experience in mental health or related field. LCDC licensure required.
  • Experience working with a military or veteran population is preferred.
  • 5+ years of clinical experience is preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be highly organized, detail oriented, and reliable.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
  • Basic math skills required.
  • Ability to work with reports and numbers.
  • Ability to calculate moderately complex figures and amounts to accurately report activities and budgets.
REASONING ABILITY:
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
  • Use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to utilize Internet for resources.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
  • Current State of Texas Driver License or if you live in another state, must be currently licensed in that state. If licensed in another state, must obtain Texas Driver License within three (3) months of employment.
  • Liability insurance required if employee will operate personal vehicle on Center property or for Center business. Must be insurable by Centers liability carrier if employee operates a Center vehicle or drives personal car on Center business. Must have an acceptable driving record.
