Job Duties:
The City of Virginia Beach Public Works-Bridge Maintenance Division is currently hiring a Motor Equipment Operator II.

Must possess a Commercial Driver's License - Class A for (VA or NC)
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Installs guardrails, handrails, and performs miscellaneous carpentry work to provide adequate safety structures.
- Performs sand blasting and chipping to prepare surface areas for maintenance and painting.
- Pouring concrete, filling pavement cracks with asphalt and bituminous concrete on bridge surfaces to make adequate repairs.
- Assist in loading and unloading materials and equipment transported by truck.
- Operates equipment to carry materials between work sites.
- Operate a snowplow during snow events.
- Operate a dump truck and other light-duty vehicles in carrying tools, equipment, and supplies, to and from repair jobs.
- Operate backhoe.
- Operate Light automotive and medium-duty power mowers for the purpose of vegetative maintenance of public rights-of-way and other municipally owned properties.
- Operate weed eaters along with pole saws, chain saws.
CDL Hiring Bonus - Newly hired employees with a valid Class A CDL will be eligible for a $4000 hiring bonus to be delivered in installments.
- $1,000 with first paycheck
- $1,000 first pay period following six-month interim eval (with "meets expectation" performance rating)
- $2,000 at conclusion of probationary period (with "meets expectation" performance rating)

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS: Requires completion of the tenth (10th) grade, plus two (2) years experience in fields providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities, such as motor equipment operation; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina drivers license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV drivers license eligibility requirements.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. May require a Commercial Driver's license. This position may require that incumbents wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, steel toed shoes, safety glasses, gloves, or other designated safety attire and equipment in designated areas of risk. Specific requirements will be determined and communicated by the employees supervisor based on position assigned. This is position may be designated as a safety sensitive position and be subject to mandatory drug testing and annual exams. Positive drug test results may result in counseling and/or discipline, up to and including, termination.

Preferences:
• Field experience in bridge and culvert maintenance and repair
• Experience using materials, equipment and methods utilized in bridge maintenance and repair
• Field experience installing guard rail systems
• VDOT Certification in Guardrail Installer Training (GRIT)
• Work zone safety training
• Experience with operating general lawn care equipment and machinery
• Experience operating a small boat or Coast Guard Training
• Class A CDL
