JOB SUMMARY
Reports to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education and to the Vice Provost for Education. Serves as the leader in the Office of Undergraduate Medical Education responsible for the clinical phase of the medical student curriculum. Works closely with the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education, UT Southwestern clerkship directors, other clinical rotations, and education administration and staff across all schools and programs that implement or manage the medical student curriculum. Provides expertise required to maintain LCME accreditation. Oversees the collection and management of data required for monitoring and improvement of the quality of clinical rotations, Chairs the Clerkship Subcommittee of the Medical Education and Curriculum Committee. Collaborates with all medical school components and partners including the Office of Student Affairs, Academic Colleges, Simulation Center, Curricular Thread Directors, GME Faculty and Learners to bring innovative approaches to teaching into the curriculum.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
  • Education

  • Experience
    5 years of related experience in medical undergraduate or graduate medical education, including previous supervisory experience with management of educational programs in medicine
JOB DUTIES
  • Manages clinical phases of the medical school curriculum including scheduling of clerkship pathways.
  • Assists in the development, measurement, and monitoring of the key metrics for the quality and effectiveness of the clinical phase of medical school education and ensures the effectiveness and quality of clinical educational programs.
  • Addresses quality issues that arise in clerkships and other clinical rotations including, but not limited to, required clinical experiences, mid-clerkship feedback, quality of clerkship teaching and overall clerkship quality, observation of history and physical exams by faculty, equivalency of clinical rotation sites, and ensuring training of residents who interact with medical students at all sites where students rotate.
  • Participates as a voting member of the Medical Education and Curriculum Committee (MECC), Chairs the Clerkship Subcommittee of MECC and guides the Clerkship Subcommittee in 3-year clerkship reviews.
  • Serves as the program director and mentor for student scholarly activity in the Education Track.
  • Serves on the LCME Standards Committee; assists clerkship and other clinical rotation directors with the monitoring of accreditation data for LCME and participates actively in medical school accreditation. This includes the LCME and SACS which accredits the University.
  • Collaborates with Academic Colleges in the development of longitudinal strategies to enhance clinical skill attainment and clinical reasoning development.
  • Collaborates with Student Affairs on Transitions to Clerkship curriculum, and other parts of the curriculum.
  • Contributes to the development, implementation and refinement of the school's competency-based medical education strategy via collaboration with the Directors, Assistant Deans, etc.
  • Participates in additional clinical curricular activities as needed.
