Network Engineer II

Under general supervision manages, implements, maintains, monitors, diagnoses, recommends upgrades, documents, and supports the network systems hardware for Local and Wide Area networks, wireless LAN, telecommunications, remote access systems including firewalls, intrusion prevention, vulnerability scanners, and other network diagnostic tools.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Required
-
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems, or related field.

Two years of experience in Network Engineering in Information Systems — Required.
OR
-
Associate’s degree in computer science, management information systems, or related field.
-
Four years of experience in Information Systems.
OR
- Six years of experience in Information Systems.
Preferred
-
Understanding of telecommunications hardware, storage, and operating systems in a healthcare setting is preferred.
-
Experience with Cisco, Cisco Nexus and Fortinet/Fortigate is strongly preferred.
-
Ability to troubleshoot telecommunications hardware, storage, and operating systems, teamwork, time management, and effective communication.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:
-
Monitors network traffic usage and performance and proactively diagnoses and resolves problems related to enterprise network operation, network security, and remote access.

Installs, configures, manages, secures and operates switches, routers, and other network equipment for the core and enterprise LAN/WAN network environment.
-
Provides upgrade recommendations, documents and supports the network systems for optimal performance.
-
Provides maintenance and upgrades of switches, routers, and other network equipment required for the operation of the enterprise LAN/WAN environment.

Manages all network system components systems to ensure optimal performance, capacity, patches and compliance.

Installs, configures, manages, secures and operates switches, routers, and other network equipment for the core and enterprise LAN/WAN network environment.

Performs installation, configuration, test, and ensures proper security levels of all components of the enterprise LAN/WAN network environment.

Provides appropriate levels of redundancy for all network components and services to ensure established uptime goals are met with minimal interruption of service to mission critical applications.

Ensures enterprise network systems meet uptime requirements by reporting and identifying service interruptions through established measurement procedures for scheduled maintenance windows and unscheduled service events.

Develops and Implements scheduled test procedures to verify functionality in accordance with industry best practices compliance standards.

Performs diagnostics, develops maintenance resolution documentation and communicates to management the overall status of the network on a timely basis.

Monitors the security of the enterprise network through use of intrusion prevention systems and ensures real-time logging and alerting measures are in place and maintained for proper retention periods.

Prepares change management documentation and provides planning in compliance with the IT Change Management Policy.

Develops and maintains extensive documentation for all managed systems including databases, diagrams, reports and other related documents.

Develops documentation, procedures and schedules for maintenance and upgrades of switches, routers, and other network equipment required for the operation of the enterprise LAN/WAN environment.

Provides upgrade recommendations, documents and supports the network systems for optimal performance.

Works with IT Managers, Team Leaders, and customers of Ellis network services to provide expected levels of customer service and expertise pertaining to network operations.

Participates in new product and technology demonstrations and evaluations.

Participates in all Information Security discussion, reporting and recommendations.

Participates in and contributes to all disaster recovery projects and exercises.

Develops maintenance plans and ensures that systems receive updates and remain effective by identifying, planning for and acquiring tools, methodology and procedures for upgrades or replacement of network components through annual budget processes.

Fosters teamwork through open communication and information sharing, delivering expected outcomes on time and in accordance with Ellis Standards of Behaviors.

Provides informed explanations and recommendations by staying current with new and enhanced technologies, security threats, products and techniques as well as vendor recommended strategic direction

Possess excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and troubleshooting skills;

Be self-confident, motivated, and disciplined in the delivery of projects and tasks;

Part of on-call schedule and share coverage with the rest of the networking team.

Salary Range: $31.50-47.26 /hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
