SUMMARY: The Residential Medication Management Certified Medical Assistant works under the direct supervision of the licensed medical professional (LMP) to coordinate medication management, provide support to clinical/medical staff, and coordinate care within the program.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
  • Update and maintain electronic medication administration records and medication supplies
  • Coordinate medication refills with primary care, specialists, and pharmacies.
  • Track receipt of medications and resolve discrepancies.
  • Using electronic medication administration record, generate requested reports, including but not limited to medication incident reports and tracking critical medication compliance incidents
  • Destroy discontinued medications.
  • Perform medication counts as requested
  • Perform patient care activities as delegated by the LMP, including patient care instructions, individual medication orders, and other established patient care orders.
  • Recognize and initiate appropriate response to crisis or emergency situations.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical and medical teams to ensure that safety and industry standards are maintained program wide.
  • Maintain equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
  • Actively participate as part of the multi-disciplinary treatment team within scope of practice in support of patient's treatment plan.
  • Consistent attendance and punctuality are required of this position.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
  • Provide direct patient care cross-coverage for Residential Medical Clinic certified medical assistant as needed. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Verify patient information by interviewing patient and confirming purpose of visit.
    • Prepare patients for examination by LMP by performing vital signs, medication reconciliation, EKGs, phlebotomy as indicated, and giving patients medical history forms. Assist patients filling out medical history forms if they are unable to complete by themselves.
    • Schedule appointments by making arrangements with the program facility, verifying times with patients, preparing charts, pre-admission and consent forms.
    • Perform front office administrative duties including management of supply inventory, prompt and friendly answering of telephone calls, greeting patients and excellent customer service.
    • Coordinate care in the form of requesting of records, communicating progress, acting as liaison between internal and external influences, gathering of information, and preparing reports.
    • Assist medical staff in monitoring patient medical status, measuring patient vital signs, and performing other routine medical procedures as directed by LMP; maintain up to date documentation of observations and evaluations in patient electronic medical record.
  • Cover for another position during an absence or assist with a shared team responsibility.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Preferred: High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Minimum two years of experience in an ambulatory care outpatient, primary care, or urgent care environment.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
  • Experience navigating electronic health records and computer systems including excel, MS Word. Experience in an office setting with an ongoing patient panel.
  • Ability to engage patients with complex needs.
  • Demonstrated consistency in the application of "6 Rights" of medication administration.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to adhere to established principles of patient safety.
  • Ability to utilize both oral and written communications skills to effectively communicate with clients, co-workers, community resources, supervisors, and various other individuals encountered in the course of performing work while maintaining client confidentiality and establishing professional rapport.
  • Ability to maintain professional communications and boundaries while managing complex situations and interacting with individuals diagnosed with substance use or co-occurring conditions.
  • Ability to operate a computer, utilize basic MS Office programs, and effectively navigate and maintain client records in an electronic medical records system.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
  • Certified Medical Assistant from an accredited CMA program.
  • Crisis prevention training completion within 90 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to acquire within 30 days of hire.
  • May need a current Oregon or Washington driver's license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to perform Basic Life Support for 15 minutes continuously while certified in BLS.
  • Must be able to operate a personal computer, including reading from a computer monitor, keyboarding, and using a mouse.
  • Ability to reach, bend, and handle objects.
  • Direct exposure to patients in working environment.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle if required to drive.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • A negative result on all pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, and post accident drug screens .
