Provide, Prepare and Serve Dinner For Young Adults Experiencing Homelessness
1 day ago
Serving dinner to young adults (18 - 25 years of age) experiencing homelessness in our community. At New Horizons, volunteer food groups or individual volunteers provide, prepare or drop off dinner meals seven days a week.
By becoming a small food group, you have the opportunity to partner with us, providing the consistency of a hot, home-cooked meal to youth and young adults while they receive resources and access to services designed to help lead them towards housing. As a food group volunteer, you and up to 5 others will prepare a meal of your choice for approximately 40 - 45 young adults either in-house at our New Horizons commercial grade kitchen (preferred), or from your own home to drop off at the shelter at dinner time.
Monday - Thursday, dinner is served between 7:00pm - 8:00pm. For volunteers wishing to prepare dinner in the shelter, you may arrive as early as 5:00pm, finishing up by 8:30pm. For volunteers opting to drop off meals, we ask that meals are dropped off between 5:30pm - 6:15pm.
Friday - Sunday, dinner is served between 9:00pm - 10:00pm. For volunteers wishing to prepare dinner in the shelter, you may arrive as early as 8:00pm, finishing up by10:00pm. For volunteers opting to drop off meals, we ask that meals are dropped off between 8:00pm - 8:30pm. If you would like to drop off a meal earlier than 8:00pm, you will be able to coordinate your drop off time with the Volunteer and Food Service Manager.
If you don't have the capacity to provide a meal but would still like to help with service, we are also looking for volunteers who are able to prep and serve dinner. When meals are dropped off by food groups, volunteer servers are needed. The serving time is from 6:00pm - 8:30pm (Monday - Thursday) and 8:00pm - 10:15pm (Friday - Sunday). The Volunteer and Food Service Manager will send out a dinner service sign-up schedule for volunteers each month.
If you have questions, please reach out to our Volunteer and Food Service Manager, Rodney Scott (rodneys@nhmin.org or call 206.374.0866) so we can provide you more detailed information on this volunteer opportunity.
Thank you for your interest in supporting young adults experiencing homelessness in our community
