The Staff Accountant will play a key role in supporting the daily financial operations. This individual will be responsible for full-cycle Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, payroll processing, and assisting with monthly financial reporting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable working within a startup environment where processes are evolving and teamwork is essential.
Staff Accountant Key Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle Accounts Payable (AP): invoice processing, vendor communication, payment runs, and expense report review.
- Oversee Accounts Receivable (AR): customer invoicing, collections follow-up, and cash application.
- Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll, ensuring accurate withholding, benefits, and compliance with federal/state regulations.
- Support month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Assist with financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting tasks as needed.
- Help develop, streamline, and document new accounting processes and internal controls in a startup setting.
- Maintain vendor and customer records, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams-including Operations, HR, and Leadership-on financial matters.
- Contribute to ad-hoc projects related to system improvements, audits, and growth initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably including exposure to AP, AR, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Strong understanding of GAAP principles.
- Prior experience in a start-up or fast-paced environment is a plus.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
