Site Reliability Engineer, Tesla Energy Services Platform

We are a high-impact, fast-paced team that values curiosity, learning, mentorship, open discourse, and collaboration, with a direct impact on Tesla's mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy. You'll collaborate with other Energy Engineering teams for the newest Energy projects like Megapack 3. You'll work with and deepen your expertise in distributed storage, manage Kubernetes and NATS clusters, build observability tooling, and develop Rust applications for edge software updates. If you enjoy scaling software systems, thinking in systems, and tackling engineering and product challenges, this role is for you.
What You'll Do- Design and implement edge kubernetes fleet management, server provisioning, andsoftware update automation for Certified Service Provider program
- Evaluate server hardware and operating systems for next-gen platform
- Characterize complex problems related to the scalability, reliability, performance,and security of production systems
- Test the performance, scalability, and reliability of software systems at scale,including developing the services to support this testing
- Provide technical leadership, foster collaboration through in-office meetings andpair programming, and drive initiatives to completion
- Learn from pilot sites and early customers to inform the future of the platform
- Maintain the values of the team which include engineering excellence, curiosity, abias for action, self-awareness, inclusivity, and vulnerability
- 5+ years of relevant industry experience
- Strong understanding of system design principles and the challenges of ensuringavailability, reliability, scalability, and security in distributed software systems
- An understanding of and interest in server hardware fundamentals
- Fluency in Rust and experience with Kubernetes, NATS, and industrialcommunication protocols are a plus
- An interest in CI/CD and deployment tooling for IoT are a plus
- Experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining secure network systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Eagerness to prototype, work on early-stage projects, and learn from pilots

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
