Primary Purpose: To strengthen the educational process through improvement of the health status and learning of children
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Registered Nurse with academic preparation at the associate or baccalaureate level, BSN preferred.
- Current Texas license issued by the Board of Nurse Examiners.
- Current certification in CPR/AED
- Nursing care of the school age child
- Preferred: two years of supervised nurse practice preferably in pediatrics and medical/surgical nursing prior to entry into school nursing.
- Provide assessment and nursing care for all ill and injured students.
- Utilize a district knowledge base for decision making in nursing practice.
- Use a systematic approach to problem solving in nursing practice.
- Contribute to the education of the student with special health needs by assessing the student, planning, and providing appropriate nursing care, and evaluating the identified outcomes of care.
- Use effective written, verbal, and nonverbal communication skills.
- Collaborate with other school professionals, parents, and caregivers to meet the health, developmental, and educational needs of students.
- Collaborate with members of the community in the delivery of health and social services, and utilize knowledge of community health systems and resources to function as a school community liaison.
- Assist students, families and the school community to achieve optimal levels of wellness through appropriately designed and delivered health education.
- Contribute to school health through innovations on practice and participation in research or research-related activities.
