Join Leidos as a Human Language Technology (HLT) Engineer and take on a vital role in a dynamic language services program. In this position, you will execute day-to-day HLT operations aligned with program objectives and customer goals. Your work will involve collaborating across functional teams to ensure timely implementation of HLT testing, solutions, and schedules. Contribute to refreshing and expanding our HLT solutions while making a meaningful impact in the field. This opportunity is contingent on customer approval.

Primary Responsibilities

• Develop applications and APIs to enhance workflow and integrate new resources into existing HLT tools.
• Create tailored technical solutions for processing complex or unconventional data types.
• Research, develop, and integrate advanced Human Language Technology capabilities.
• Offer technical leadership to cross-functional teams in developing AI and HLT solutions.
• Analyze language processing needs and propose innovative solutions for efficiency.
• Prototype HLT systems or components based on priority workflow and operational mission needs.
• Evaluate technology solutions relative to mission data and workflow requirements, providing actionable recommendations.
• Communicate complex ideas effectively to non-technical audiences through presentations and documentation.
• Lead projects or mentor small teams to tackle intricate HLT challenges for the customer and program management office (PMO).
• Act as an influential advocate for HLT within the organization.
• Mentor new program employees in HLT best practices.
• Integrate Leidos technology into program HLT efforts as appropriate.
• Collaborate across the program and with the customer to ensure high-quality translation, interpretation, and transcription support through HLT initiatives.

Basic Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree with at least 8 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with at least 6 years of relevant experience; a Doctorate in a technical field may be accepted.
• 3+ years of demonstrated knowledge in IC translation fundamentals and standard operating procedures.
• Recent experience with deploying and training machine learning models.
• Strong independent work ethic with decision-making skills requiring minimal guidance.
• Experience handling complex and large datasets, particularly in text and web data.
• Familiarity with deep learning tools, including PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Proficient in programming languages such as Java or Python, with bash command-line tool experience.
• Knowledge of machine learning methodologies and frameworks like NLTK or SpaCy.
• Solid understanding of linguistics, grammar, and language nuances.
• Aptitude for analyzing linguistic challenges and devising innovative technical solutions.
• Experience or interest in cloud computing solutions (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.).
• Proven ability in prototyping/developing human language technology components and systems.
• Capability to apply advanced machine learning techniques to human language processing challenges.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and users.

Preferred Qualifications

• Basic proficiency in one or more foreign languages.
• Experience in greenfield software development and building APIs.
• Background in training machine translation engineers or OCR language models.
• Experience with modifying open-source code for specific applications.
• Knowledge of designing and building containers for software deployment in various environments.
• Experience in the Intelligence Community (IC).
• Familiarity with JavaScript or JSON.
