About The Position

A facility in Portsmouth, NH is seeking an experienced Locums Trauma Surgery Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to provide on-site trauma coverage, assist in critical care rounds, and support surgical teams as needed. This role includes both weekday and weekend shifts with a combination of 8-hour and 12-hour schedules. First-assist experience is preferred but not required.

Schedule & Coverage

  • Monthly Requirements: Up to 8-9 days of on-site trauma coverage / backup coverage
  • Shift Options:
    • 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM
    • 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM
  • Coverage Days: Monday-Friday with weekend coverage as needed
  • Setting: Trauma APP coverage for inpatient rounding

Responsibilities

  • Provide trauma surgery support and inpatient rounding
  • Assist in first-assist duties when applicable
  • Perform critical care rounding on trauma patients
  • Collaborate with trauma surgeons, hospitalists, and the multidisciplinary team
  • Manage daily patient evaluations, documentation, orders, and care planning
  • Respond to trauma consults as needed

Patient Volume

  • Average Daily Census: ~10 patients

Requirements

  • NH State Licensed: PA or APRN
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible
  • ATLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Experience in trauma, acute care surgery, or critical care strongly preferred
  • Ability to work independently within scope while collaborating with attending physicians
  • Familiarity with trauma protocols and inpatient hospital workflows
