GPF Calibration Engineer

- Develop and execute calibration strategies for GPF systems on HEVs, including:
- Soot Loading Control:
- Develop and implement strategies to minimize soot accumulation in the GPF under various driving conditions.
- Optimize regeneration strategies to effectively remove soot from the GPF while minimizing fuel consumption and emissions (e.g., NOx, HC).
- Analyze and address potential issues related to soot loading, such as excessive soot accumulation, incomplete regeneration, and filter plugging.
- PM Emissions Control:
- Calibrate engine and aftertreatment systems to minimize PM emissions across the entire vehicle operating range, including transient and steady-state conditions.
- Analyze and optimize GPF performance parameters, such as filter efficiency, pressure drop, and regeneration frequency.
- Gasoline Emissions Control:
- Collaborate with other calibration engineers to ensure optimal control of gasoline engine emissions, including NOx, HC, and CO, while minimizing their impact on GPF performance.
- Analyze and address potential interactions between gasoline engine emissions and GPF operation.
- Soot Loading Control:
- Conduct bench and vehicle testing to evaluate GPF performance and validate calibration strategies.
- Analyze test data using advanced data analysis techniques to identify trends, diagnose issues, and optimize calibration parameters.
- Utilize engine simulation tools and other engineering software to model and predict GPF performance.
- Develop and maintain calibration documentation and reports.
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, such as engine design, aftertreatment development, and controls engineering, to resolve technical challenges.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in emissions regulations, aftertreatment technologies, and hybrid vehicle architectures.
- May be required to support occasional travel for testing and meetings.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in powertrain calibration, with a strong focus on emissions systems.
- Experience with gasoline engine operation, emissions systems (including three-way catalysts, lean NOx traps, etc.), and aftertreatment systems (including GPFs, DPFs, SCR).
- Strong understanding of hybrid vehicle architectures and their impact on emissions.
- Experience with engine and vehicle testing procedures and data analysis techniques.
- Proficiency in using engine simulation tools and other engineering software.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with HEV calibration, specifically related to emissions control.
- Knowledge of model-based control systems and their application to emissions control.
- Experience with using advanced data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python).
- Experience with developing and implementing calibration strategies for complex systems.
