Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Salary: $35-$50 per hour, based on experience.

Join our dynamic team as a Heavy Equipment Technician, where you will report directly to the Maintenance Supervisor. In this role, you will take on the exciting responsibility of performing complex preventative maintenance and troubleshooting a wide range of operational equipment, including trucks and yellow iron machinery such as bulldozers, front-end loaders, and more.

• Conduct repairs on heavy equipment including, but not limited to, bulldozers, skid steers, front-end loaders, yard trucks, tractors, forklifts, and company vehicles.
• Diagnose and repair intricate systems such as differentials, hydraulic systems, engines, transmissions, air conditioning systems, and electrical systems.
• Follow detailed preventative maintenance checklists to ensure full functionality of equipment.
• Complete essential records including work orders, card files, P.M. checklists, and oil samples.
• Service and maintain other critical equipment like light plants, water pumps, welders, and additional machinery.

Key Responsibilities:

• Utilize advanced knowledge to effectively diagnose and resolve mechanical issues on heavy equipment.
• Execute repairs and preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.
• Estimate time and material costs for vehicle repairs and request necessary parts.
• Perform safety inspections on vehicles to prioritize safety standards.
• Utilize fleet maintenance software for documenting vehicle repairs, part usage, and repair time.

• Review and act on repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
• Maintain a clean and safe workspace in compliance with safety protocols and OSHA standards.
• This position won’t have direct reports but will collaborate with other technicians on different shifts.
• Assist senior technicians with project work as needed.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs is required.
• Perform other tasks as needed.

Requirements and Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
• A valid driver’s license is required; a CDL is a plus.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required.

• Experience in the sanitation or construction industry is a plus.
• Computer diagnostic experience as a diesel technician is preferred.
• Familiarity with troubleshooting and repairing DPF systems using diagnostic software such as Premium Tech Tool (Mack), Allison transmission, Cummins, CAT, Peterbilt, and Paccar is beneficial.
• Working knowledge of applicable DOT and OSHA regulations is advantageous.
• Proficiency in English to effectively communicate with colleagues and document records accurately.

• Must be able to meet the physical and safety requirements of the position.
• Must provide your own tools.
