The Manager, Budget and Cost Accounting is responsible for the coordination of the annual hospital budget, cost accounting, maintenance of the chargemaster and the productivity system for Ellis Medicine. Responsible for leading and directing the day-to-day activities of department staff.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.

  • Master’s in Business Administration preferred.

  • 5 years of experience required and 2 years of supervisory experience preferred.

  • Good oral and written communication skills, knowledge of data processing systems, and computer experience are required.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

  • Responsible for leading and directing the day to day activities of department staff.

  • Responsible for the coordination of the annual hospital budget, cost accounting, decision support, and the productivity system for Ellis Medicine.

  • Manager will participate in and supervise the preparation of the annual budget.

  • Prepares the budget timetable with the Controller.

  • Meets with Directors to generate departmental budgets. Reviews completed worksheets and questions unusual variances and obtains explanations.

  • Reviews all payroll simulations that are performed.

  • Reviews preliminary profit and loss statements with Controller and CFO and explains significant variances.

  • Coordinates and assists in completing the budget package to be submitted to the Board, including drafting the narrative explanations with the Controller and CFO.

  • Responsible for the documentation of the budget process and procedures.

  • Ensures that the budget system software and file update procedures have been documented by the Budget/Cost Accountant.

  • Participates in and supervises the operation of the cost accounting system.

  • Ensures that the Budget/Cost Accountant completes the duties assigned as they relate to the cost accounting system.

  • Ensures that system maintenance is performed on a timely basis.

  • Ensures that the cost accounting system “customers” are adequately trained on the use of the reports generated, the availability of other reports, and their responsibility of the review and verification of the data associated with their departments.

  • Reviews the cost accounting system documentation completed by the Budget/Cost Accountant.

  • Assists in and supervises the preparation of financial analysis of existing or new programs and services.

  • Assists Controller with financial feasibility studies.

  • Prepares and/or reviews reports generated by the Analyst/Accountant for the Finance and other departments.

  • Determines present costs of procedures based on cost accounting reports and data.

  • Determines projected revenues and expenses.

  • Assists in pricing services and procedures based on customer request.

  • Responsible and supervisor the Analyst/Accountant in the operation of the Productivity System, trains staff and other department staff members on the system.

  • Produces productivity reports for administration and department directors on a monthly basis.

  • Works with Quorum productivity specialists to add and refine benchmarks.

  • Assists the Coding Compliance Coordinator (CCC) in the maintenance of the chargemaster, maintenance received and reviewed by the CC will then be reviewed for accuracy and assigned financial information as applicable.

  • Provide oversight for overall recruitment, talent retention, performance management, staff and professional development, career advancement, disciplinary actions, employee training, etc. Conducts performance reviews, High-Middle-Low assessments, and recommends salary adjustments.

  • Oversees the development and management of the department budget. Make budgetary recommendations to entity leadership. Analyze financial data and identify cost savings within the operation, analyze financial data. Manage of labor expenses against productivity.

  • Demonstrate strong supervisory, leadership, communication, management and coaching skills, adhere to the Making Ellis Exceptional Standards, and initiate, promote, and support change initiatives.

  • Adheres and ensures staff adheres to the legal, safety, health, fire, and sanitation codes, by being familiar with fire, safety, and disaster plans.

  • Participate in the Ellis Medicine employee survey, share survey results with staff, and focus on key indicators of improvement and development an action plan.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $36.07-54.10 /hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
