Lead Accountant for Commissions

Join our dynamic team as a Lead Accountant for Commissions, where you will play a critical role in managing commissions expenses in a vibrant, multi-entity, multi-product setting. Here’s what you can expect in this exciting position:

• Ensure the accurate recording and reporting of commissions expenses.

• Review and approve all commission-related journal entries and reconciliations for month-end close, including accruals and prepaid schedules.

• Conduct trend analysis of monthly expenses, identifying outliers and reporting insights to management.

• Guarantee alignment with US GAAP and company policies by accurately interpreting and applying accounting standards.

• Oversee periodic audits of commission data integrity, assisting in designing audit procedures as needed.

• Continuously evaluate and enhance commission-related accounting processes while collaborating with product development teams.

• Proactively assess controls and risks within the commissions process, implementing necessary prevention and remediation strategies.

• Work alongside external auditors, providing thorough support to facilitate a smooth annual financial statement audit.

• Supervise customer service operations via the Broker Info inbox and JIRA ticketing system, ensuring prompt and accurate responses to requests.

• Develop and manage the performance of a dedicated commissions team of 2-3 members.

• Actively participate in weekly Commission team meetings and bi-weekly departmental meetings.

• Serve as a liaison in commission-related discussions with other departments and lead commission-related projects as needed.

• Cross-train in other departmental tasks when requested.

• Perform various accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as directed by management.

Required Skills / Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.

• Minimum of 4+ years' experience in accounting; prior experience with commissions or accounts payable preferred.

• At least 2+ years' experience in people management required.

• Strong understanding of US GAAP and Accrual Accounting.

• Familiarity with Sage Intacct, Salesforce, and Power BI is a plus.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills preferred (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPS, etc.).

• Proven ability to manage multiple assignments and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

• Effective problem-solving skills and ability to manage conflict constructively.

• Strong analytical skills for informed decision-making.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• A proactive approach to managing tasks and taking initiative.

• Strong math aptitude and accuracy in working with numbers.

• Highly collaborative team player.

Compensation: Based on relevant market data and individual qualifications, the anticipated hiring range for this role is $80,000 - $100,000 annually. This role is also eligible for short-term incentives.
