Job Description: Billing Specialist

The Cole Financial Services Billing Specialist position is responsible for reviewing claims for appropriate coding and clean claim submission. The Billing Specialist reports to the Financial Services Manager.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly

The following is a summary of major essential functions of the billing specialist position. Specific functions may, from time to time, change. These functions include:

Essential Functions:

Team Responsibility

Treat fellow team members, clients and therapists with respect and politeness. To come to work on time and follow established dress code policies.

Operational Responsibility:

1. Prepares and submits clean claims for Cole to various insurance companies, either electronically or by paper.

2. Identifies and resolves carrier billing issues, inclusive of clearinghouse communications and resolutions.

3. Reviews accounts for possible assignment and makes recommendations to the billing manager.

4. Responsible for correcting carrier line-ups in charts or records.

5. Completes daily stand up and metrics for billing pending and processed.

6. Observe patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA guidelines.

7. Reconciliation of billings to EMR systems on a weekly to monthly basis.

8. Makes changes as needed in Medisoft/EMR Systems in the Chart case in the Diagnosis, Account and Miscellaneous tab.

9. Is a back up for payment posting within the Medisoft/EMR system for Cole accounts?

10. Carry out any other projects assigned by the Financial Services Manager.

Qualifications:
• Microsoft Office-Intermediate Level
• Proficient in Excel
• Team Player
• Accuracy, Dependability, Friendly, Outgoing. Polite, Multitask
• Demonstration of understanding of basic accounting principles
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• One Year Medical Billing experience or Medical Billing and Coding Diploma
