POSITION TITLE: School Monitor (Lunch/breakfast/bus duty and support other school needs)

LOCATION: TBD

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

PRIMARY FUNCTION: To provide safe transportation, safe food service delivery, and assist with other school needs so students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district curriculum and extracurricular program.

  1. Required - High School Diploma or GED
  2. Preferred - 60 hours of college credit
  1. Experience:
  1. Required - Prior experience working with students.
  2. Preferred - Prior experience working as a bus or lunch aide in an urban public school setting
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Bus Duty Responsibilities:
  1. Assists the bus driver in maintaining good student conduct on the bus.
  2. Assists young or disabled students in getting on and off the bus.
  3. Attend training and safety programs provided by the Board.
  4. Inspects transportation passes to prevent unauthorized travel.
  5. Assures that students get on and off the bus in an orderly fashion.
  6. Provided written records of violations of the student code to the Building Principal.
  7. Collect and turn over to the school secretary those personal items left on the bus by students.
  8. Uses de-escalation techniques to assist with behavioral non-compliance and to work with students in crisis to enable their return to the proper academic setting.
  9. Implements a variety of behavior plans for students.
Monitors students in the cafeteria:
  1. Supports orderly entrance and dismissal of students
  2. Circulating around the cafeteria/classroom to ensure student safety
  3. Issuing passes to students leaving the cafeteria/classroom during lunch
  4. Ensures tables and desks are cleared of trash after each lunch period
  5. Disinfect tables/desks before and after each lunch period
  6. Assist students as needed
Other Responsibilities for All Duties:
  1. Communicates effectively with staff, students, and/or parents regarding needs and concerns.
  2. Uses knowledge of student needs to make necessary modifications to daily activities.
  3. Assists in the preparation of materials needed for classrooms, including duplication, lamination, etc.
  4. Assists in and around the school with recess/lunch/bus duty and general assistance in hallways and classrooms.
  5. Attends and participates in training opportunities including but not limited to in-service days, department meetings, building meetings, committees, conferences, etc.
  6. Complies with district confidentiality guidelines including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  7. Performs other duties and responsibilities as determined by the principal or designee or as needs arise.
  8. Support students with COVID mitigation strategies (e.g. masks, social distancing, handwashing, etc.).
  9. Assist in the cleaning and/or sanitizing of surfaces, manipulatives, toys, and bedding (at GB).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Manual Dexterity: Work requires definite skilled and accurate physical operations requiring some closely coordinated performance.

Physical Effort: Work required handling average weight materials or equipment, but not for sustained periods.

Working Conditions: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 191 days

SALARY RANGE: $15.97 per hour, $0-21 per paycheck for single health and paid dental insurance, paid time off, paid holidays, tuition reimbursement, and more.
