POSITION TITLE: School Monitor (Lunch/breakfast/bus duty and support other school needs)
LOCATION: TBD
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
PRIMARY FUNCTION: To provide safe transportation, safe food service delivery, and assist with other school needs so students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district curriculum and extracurricular program.

- Preferred - Paraprofessional License
- Education:
- Required - High School Diploma or GED
- Preferred - 60 hours of college credit
- Experience:
- Required - Prior experience working with students.
- Preferred - Prior experience working as a bus or lunch aide in an urban public school setting
Bus Duty Responsibilities:
- Assists the bus driver in maintaining good student conduct on the bus.
- Assists young or disabled students in getting on and off the bus.
- Attend training and safety programs provided by the Board.
- Inspects transportation passes to prevent unauthorized travel.
- Assures that students get on and off the bus in an orderly fashion.
- Provided written records of violations of the student code to the Building Principal.
- Collect and turn over to the school secretary those personal items left on the bus by students.
- Uses de-escalation techniques to assist with behavioral non-compliance and to work with students in crisis to enable their return to the proper academic setting.
- Implements a variety of behavior plans for students.
- Supports orderly entrance and dismissal of students
- Circulating around the cafeteria/classroom to ensure student safety
- Issuing passes to students leaving the cafeteria/classroom during lunch
- Ensures tables and desks are cleared of trash after each lunch period
- Disinfect tables/desks before and after each lunch period
- Assist students as needed
- Communicates effectively with staff, students, and/or parents regarding needs and concerns.
- Uses knowledge of student needs to make necessary modifications to daily activities.
- Assists in the preparation of materials needed for classrooms, including duplication, lamination, etc.
- Assists in and around the school with recess/lunch/bus duty and general assistance in hallways and classrooms.
- Attends and participates in training opportunities including but not limited to in-service days, department meetings, building meetings, committees, conferences, etc.
- Complies with district confidentiality guidelines including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as determined by the principal or designee or as needs arise.
- Support students with COVID mitigation strategies (e.g. masks, social distancing, handwashing, etc.).
- Assist in the cleaning and/or sanitizing of surfaces, manipulatives, toys, and bedding (at GB).
- Assist in other areas as needed
- Complete other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Manual Dexterity: Work requires definite skilled and accurate physical operations requiring some closely coordinated performance.
Physical Effort: Work required handling average weight materials or equipment, but not for sustained periods.
Working Conditions: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 191 days
SALARY RANGE: $15.97 per hour, $0-21 per paycheck for single health and paid dental insurance, paid time off, paid holidays, tuition reimbursement, and more.
