Albany State University is a fully accredited senior unit of the University System of Georgia. Location

Our West Campus is located at 2400 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31707. Our East Campus is located at 504 College Drive, Albany, GA 31705. The Human Resources office for both campuses is located on the West Campus in Building K, Suite 111.

Job Summary

In alignment with Albany State University's mission, values, and strategic priorities, the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) serves as a trusted consultant and strategic partner to assigned colleges, departments, and administrative units. The HRBP provides guidance and operational support across all areas of human resources, including talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, organizational effectiveness, total rewards, and compliance.

Responsibilities

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

  • Collaborates with supervisors and hiring managers to forecast workforce needs and recruit high-quality, mission aligned talent.
  • Leads the development, posting, and maintenance of position descriptions within the Applicant Tracking System (ATS).
  • Manages the full recruitment lifecycle, including applicant screening, interview support, and candidate selection processes.
  • Apply deep HR knowledge to support hiring, salary administration, and policy interpretation connected to employment actions.
  • Oversees preboarding activities (offer letters, background checks, etc.) to ensure a smooth transition into new employee onboarding.
  • Supports retention and succession planning initiatives for assigned areas.
Employee Relations & Performance Management
  • Provides consultative support on employee relations matters, ensuring objective analysis, appropriate interventions, and adherence to university policies.
  • Supports leaders in resolving complex employee relations matters and promotes fair, consistent decision-making.
  • Partners with supervisors to strengthen team effectiveness, communication, and employee engagement.
  • Coaches leaders on conflict resolution, managing performance concerns, and navigating HR-related challenges.
  • Advises leaders on performance management best practices, including coaching, feedback, and performance improvement strategies.
  • Provides thoughtful, data informed recommendations to support departmental and institutional goals.
Compliance & Best Practices
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, USG, and university HR policies, civil rights regulations, and reporting requirements.
  • Applies in-depth HR knowledge to support policy interpretation and ensure consistent decision-making across campus.
  • Maintains a strong understanding of departmental operations, strategic priorities, culture, and workforce needs.
  • Protects sensitive information and maintains the highest standards of confidentiality and professional ethics.
Training & Development
  • Partners with supervisors to identify training needs for individuals and teams.
  • Develops and delivers HR-related trainings virtually or in person in collaboration with the HR team.
  • Provides coaching to leaders regarding workforce planning, change management, and employee development.
  • Supports initiatives that promote employee growth, skill development, and continuous improvement.
Total Rewards & Compensation
  • Works with HR leadership to maintain competitive and equitable compensation ranges for new and existing positions.
  • Partners with supervisors and HR leadership on compensation reviews, promotional requests, and career progression pathways.
  • Applies HR expertise to guide leaders on salary administration and compensation related decision-making.
  • Assists with compensation survey submissions and related benchmarking efforts.
Strategic HR Partnership
  • Serves as a strategic advisor to leaders on organizational structure, workforce planning, performance challenges, and talent strategies.
  • Coaches leaders through change management and other organizational challenges.
  • Builds strong, collaborative relationships across the university to support employee engagement, retention, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Guides departments through HR processes, including leave administration, academic personnel actions, and promotion and tenure coordination (as applicable).
  • Supports annual performance conversations, engagement surveys, and action planning based on employee feedback.
  • Provides data driven insights and recommendations that align HR actions with university goals and priorities.
Required Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum of five (5+) years of progressively responsible HR experience, including full-cycle employment processes.
Proposed Salary

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
