Job Description - Foundry Electrician

Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Foundry Electrician to join our maintenance team. The Foundry Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment used in foundry operations. This role ensures reliable operation of furnaces, molding machines, conveyors, and automated systems while supporting a safe and efficient work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, controls, and equipment in a foundry environment, including furnaces, core-making machines, molding lines, conveyors, overhead cranes, and automated systems.
  • Inspect and maintain motors, drives, PLCs, relays, switches, sensors, and power distribution systems.
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance to minimize downtime and maximize equipment reliability.
  • Diagnose electrical, electronic, and control system failures using testing equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and insulation testers.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
  • Install and maintain conduit, wiring, lighting, and control panels.
  • Support upgrades and modifications to electrical systems to improve efficiency and safety.
  • Maintain accurate records of electrical work orders, inspections, and repairs.
  • Adhere to lockout/tagout, arc flash, and OSHA/foundry-specific safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, production, and engineering teams to ensure safe and reliable operations.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required; completion of a recognized Electrical Apprenticeship Program or possession of a Journeyman Electrician license strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 6 years of industrial electrician experience in a foundry, steel mill, or heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, PLCs, VFDs, controls, and high/low voltage equipment.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70E, NEC, and OSHA electrical safety standards.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical and electronic control systems.
  • Experience with motor controls, power distribution, and automation equipment.
  • Ability to work from heights, in confined spaces, and in hot/dusty foundry environments.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Work Environment:
  • Foundry environment with exposure to molten metal, high temperatures, dust, noise, and heavy industrial equipment.
  • Requires use of PPE including steel-toe boots, arc flash protection, gloves, face shields, respirators, and other protective gear.
  • Must be flexible to work various shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.
