As a key member of our Neonatology Division, the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) and Neonatal Physician Assistant (NPA) are essential in delivering exceptional medical care to neonatal patients in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and other departments. This role involves working collaboratively with supervising physicians and department leadership to ensure the highest standards of patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide exemplary patient care and engage in both formal and informal education for patients, families, and staff.
  • Conduct thorough examinations, document findings diligently, and maintain accurate medical records.
  • Develop problem lists and differential diagnoses informed by clinical observations.
  • Design comprehensive treatment plans that encompass laboratory tests, diagnostic procedures, and medication management.
  • Efficiently utilize healthcare resources and facilitate discharge planning while offering support to families.
  • Be willing to take on additional tasks as assigned to meet the department’s needs.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • For Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP):
    • Current Registered Nursing License in Virginia or a valid Compact State license.
    • Neonatal Nurse Practitioner certification from the National Certification Corporation (NCC).
  • For Neonatal Physician Assistant (NPA):
    • Current state licensure as a Physician Assistant in Virginia.
    • National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification.
  • Prescriptive Authority for both NNP & NPA:
    • Current DEA registration and prescriptive authority from the Virginia Board of Medicine.
  • CPR and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications, which must be obtained within 45 days of hire.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • For NNP:
    • Master's degree in Neonatal Nursing.
    • A minimum of three years of nursing experience in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is required.
  • For NPA:
    • Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
    • Experience in a Neonatal setting is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • All candidates should be able to meet the terms of a Non-Competition, Confidentiality, and Non-Solicitation Agreement.
  • Ability to commute locally between facilities is essential.

Work Environment:

This position involves working in a patient care setting, where you may encounter noise, dust, and varying temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases is possible, and you will be required to perform patient care activities under moderately challenging conditions.
