Automation Engineer | Byron Center, MI

Salary Range: $83,000 - $128,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement industrial automation solutions (PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, robotics).
  • Program, configure, and commission Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), and robotic systems.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve complex issues with automated production equipment and control systems.
  • Collaborate with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to identify automation opportunities and improve processes.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for automation systems, including schematics, code, and operational procedures.
  • Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and upgrades on existing automation infrastructure.
  • Research and evaluate new automation technologies to enhance manufacturing efficiency and product quality.
Recommended Qualifications
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens) and HMI/SCADA development.
  • Experience with industrial robotics programming and integration (e.g., FANUC, KUKA, ABB).
  • Strong understanding of industrial networking protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP).
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex automation systems.
  • Familiarity with industrial safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 13849) and machine safeguarding.
Bonus Qualifications
  • Experience with industrial vision systems (e.g., Cognex, Keyence).
  • Proficiency in integrating automation systems with manufacturing execution systems (MES) or SQL databases.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure IoT, AWS IoT Core) for industrial data collection and analytics.
  • Experience with CAD software for electrical control panel design (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN).
  • Knowledge of functional safety standards and their application (e.g., ISO 13849, IEC 62061, SISTEMA).
