Lead Accountant

Pavago is on the lookout for a Lead Accountant to spearhead accounting operations and drive accurate financial reporting while ensuring compliance with GAAP/IFRS standards. This position goes beyond routine bookkeeping, requiring mastery in full-cycle accounting processes, supervision of junior staff, and collaboration with management to enhance financial operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries for accruals, prepaids, fixed asset depreciation, payroll allocations, and intercompany transactions.
• Maintain reconciliations across 1530 key balance sheet accounts including cash, AR, AP, inventory, and deferred revenue.
• Lead the monthly/quarterly close cycles efficiently.
• Prepare trial balances, ensuring all entries are duly recorded, completing the close within 5-7 business days.
• Maintain comprehensive close checklists and secure sign-offs across departments.
• Generate P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements.
• Conduct variance analyses comparing actuals to budget/forecast, providing insightful commentary for leadership.
• Compile supporting schedules for auditors and board meetings.
• Support external audits by preparing Prepared by Client (PBC) schedules.
• Ensure accurate and timely tax filings (sales tax, property tax, corporate income tax).
• Document and enforce internal accounting policies effectively.
• Identify inefficiencies (such as manual reconciliations, duplicate entries) and propose automation solutions.
• Implement accounting best practices and regularly update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Review and approve work completed by staff accountants/bookkeepers.
• Mentor junior team members on reconciliation processes, reporting, and GAAP treatment.
• Collaborate with FP&A on budget vs. actual reviews.
• Coordinate with operations and sales to align on revenue recognition processes.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Strong technical proficiency in GAAP/IFRS.
• Expertise in managing intricate tasks while delivering high-level financial insights.
• Excellent communication skills with both finance professionals and non-financial stakeholders.
• Proactive in identifying risks and driving improvements.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 4-5 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks, NetSuite, Xero, or SAP.
• Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills (including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, conditional formatting).

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA/ACCA certification.
• Experience with multi-entity consolidations and foreign currency accounting.
• Background in SaaS, professional services, or real estate industries.
• Experience in ERP implementation or automation projects.

A Typical Day in This Role

• Morning: Review bank feeds and reconcile overnight transactions in NetSuite. Post accrual entries for payroll and vendor invoices. Analyze exception reports for anomalies.
• Midday: Prepare draft P&L and analyze expense allocations against budget. Meet with operations to align on deferred revenue recognition for service contracts.
• Afternoon: Mentor a junior accountant on developing a fixed asset depreciation schedule and review their reconciliation of credit card transactions, providing constructive feedback.
• End of Day: Update variance analysis template, draft a summary memo for the CFO, and document close checklist progress in Confluence.

Success Metrics (KPIs)

• Achieve month-end close within 5 business days.
• Deliver 100% of audit requests by the deadline.
• Provide consistent variance commentary to leadership.
