Farmer Relations

Location:
Remote with required travel to St. Paul, MN

Midwest Dairy is excited to offer a Farmer Relations internship opportunity to students interested in communications, public relations, marketing, or agribusiness.

The Farmer Relations Intern will assist with programming in Minnesota and North Dakota to grow trust with consumers, increase dairy sales, and develop leadership and awareness of dairy checkoff with farmers and other agricultural organizations. This individual will primarily focus on projects, events, and relationships within the state of Minnesota, particularly related to Princess Kay of the Milky Way and Minnesota State Fair.
As a result of their summer experience, the intern will have work examples that can be added to their portfolio and pre-professional experiences.

What You Will Be Responsible For:

• Write engaging and professional biographies for the Princess Kay of the Milky Way finalists.

• Accountable for planning, writing, developing and distributing 5-7-minute video highlighting Princess Kay of the Milky Way finalists.

• Assist Farmer Relations Manager and marketing department with media, newsletters and other promotional and educational materials associated with the Princess Kay program.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams for Midwest Dairy programs and partner activities such as: Minnesota and North Dakota Dairy Ambassadors, local Undeniably Dairy grants, Minnesota State Fair activities, consumer and youth events, dairy farmer and ag coalition programs, and opportunities with other partner organizations as requested.

• Write Promotion Updates and Farmer Profiles to be used in internal and external Midwest Dairy communications partnering with our internal marketing team members.

• Participate in and plan staff activities with the Employee Advisory Group (EAG) to connect with Midwest Dairy Staff.

• Perform miscellaneous administrative and support functions including, but not limited to, report writing, building presentations and collecting information.

• Perform other tasks as assigned.

• Travel up to 25%, sometimes overnight, to meetings supporting organization initiatives.

Requirements/Eligibility:

• Eighteen (18) years old before the start of the internship

• Either a permanent resident of one of the following states: Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and South Dakota OR Currently attending a two- or four-year college in one of these states.

• A background in agriculture or dairy farming is NOT REQUIRED. We encourage candidates from all varying backgrounds to consider applying.

• Pass a background check.

• Current driver's license or have access to reliable transportation to on-site work or meeting locations.

• Family members of Midwest Dairy farmer board directors or staff are ineligible for consideration unless the Midwest Dairy Corporate Board grants a special exception.

• Candidates who are current Midwest Dairy state ambassadors or dairy princesses/candidates are not eligible unless they are willing to give up their ambassador or princess position if selected for the internship.

• Applicants must be available to work 40 hours per week. The period of this internship is early June through early September. The start
  and end dates for the internship are flexible but must be finalized with the Internship Supervisor on or by April 1, 2026.
