Lead Pharmacist

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy (DOP), assists in planning, organizing, controlling, and supervising the operations of the pharmacy in accordance with all hospital policies, standards of practice of the profession, and state and federal laws. Recommends innovations in the practice and function of the hospital pharmacy to the DOP and Health System Director of Pharmacy and carries out mutually agreed upon programs. Approximately, fifty percent (50%) of the employee's time will be devoted to staffing responsibilities within the department.

Responsibilities
• In coordination with the Director of Pharmacy, is responsible for pharmacy dispensing process including, but not limited to procurement, compounding, and shipping.
• Dispense medications with appropriate labeling. Compound sterile products when requested.
• Manages day-to-day operations and activities of the pharmacy.
• Use appropriate resources to provide drug information to physicians and other health care providers associated with the institution.
• Provide any clinical services as identified by the department.
• Supervise pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. Assist in performance planning and review of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
• Keep abreast of literature and current developments in the pharmacy profession.
• Responsible for maintaining the pharmacy's compliance with USP 795, USP 797, and USP 800 regulations and other applicable methodologies and quality assurance standards for the production of sterile and non-sterile products.
• Participates on and leads appropriate teams and committees as requested.
• Accountable for the financial performance of the department.
• Assists in establishing employee work schedules and shift coverage for the department.
• Assists with implementation, maintenance, and analysis of pharmacy automation utilized within the hospital.
• Performs data analytics as requested.

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.

• Doctorate Degree
• Bachelor's Degree (Required) Experience: 1 year Related Field experience
