JOB SUMMARY

The Global Trade Compliance Classification Specialist is responsible for ensuring accurate classification of goods, technologies, and services under international trade regulations. This role supports global import/export operations by determining regulatory designations and maintaining compliance with U.S. and international laws.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Determine and document classification designations for parts, equipment, and technology
  • Assign Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), Export Control Classification Number (ECCN), and other regulatory codes using GRIs, CBP rulings
  • Support with country of origin determination, including substantial transformation assessments
  • Provide guidance to internal teams on classification requirements
  • Partner with product development, production, and supply chain teams on tariff mitigation and optimization strategies
  • Provide training to business division personnel to ensure responsible employees properly classify commodities
  • Develop and manage the use of tools for maintaining standards and consistency in HTS classification
  • Stay current on regulatory changes and geopolitical developments affecting trade
  • Develop and implement an audit program for HTS and ECCN classifications
  • Manage HTS and ECN review and other diligence activities for new acquisitions
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
  • Bachelors Degree in Business, Engineering, International Trade, or other technical fields
  • 5-8+ years of experience in trade compliance, with a focus on classification
  • Will consider an equivalent combination of relevant education, certification, and experience
  • Experience with international export requirements impacting export control classification numbers (ECCN)
  • Experience classifying varieties of products to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule and Schedule B
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must possess proven presentation skills including the ability to effectively conduct training programs
  • Proficient using ERP Systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point

  • Adaptability - maintaining effectiveness in a changing environment, assignments, responsibilities, and/or priorities
  • Great people skills and a passion for excellence
  • Detail-oriented, self-starter with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively as well as independently in a dynamic environment
  • SAP experience is preferred as well as familiarity with trade management solutions such as SAP GTS
