Description

LOCATION: Teen Hype Youth Development Program - Detroit, MI 48207

POSITION SUMMARY: The ideal candidate for the Teen HYPE Youth Aide Transporter, offered by SEMHA will provides safe, reliable transportation for Teen HYPE youth while actively supporting their development during out-of-school time programming. This unique role combines transportation responsibilities with hands-on youth engagement, ensuring young people not only arrive safely but are supported throughout their Teen HYPE experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Transportation Duties (30%)

  • Safely transport youth to and from Teen HYPE programs, events, and activities
  • Maintain accurate transportation logs and youth attendance records
  • Conduct pre-trip vehicle safety checks and maintain clean vehicle environment
  • Ensure all youth follow safety protocols during transport
  • Coordinate pick-up/drop-off schedules with families and program staff
  • Pick up program supplies and materials as needed
Youth Development Support (70%)
  • Actively engage with youth during programs using Teen HYPE's positive youth development approach
  • Support facilitators in implementing activities and managing group dynamics
  • Build meaningful relationships with youth during transport and programming
  • Assist with program setup, breakdown, and material organization
  • Provide behavior support using restorative practices
  • Document youth progress and communicate observations to program team
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Valid Michigan driver's license - Chauffeurs License Required
  • Minimum 2 years driving experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with youth ages 11-18
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds (program supplies)
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in youth development, education, or social services
  • Knowledge of Detroit neighborhoods and communities
  • Experience with diverse populations and cultural competency
Salary: $15 - $22 hourly (based on experience and qualification)

Employment Type: Part-Time

Classification: non-exempt

Work Hours/Schedule:
  • 20 - 25 hours Per week
  • 2:00pm - 9:00pm (Tuesdays & Thursdays) and some Saturdays.
  • Flexible schedule required for special events and field trips.
  • Summer work hours may increase
