The Grove City Parks and Recreation Department is currently seeking a part-time Special Events Assistant to join the dynamic and creative events team that makes magic happen year-round for our residents and visitors.
The Special Events Assistant, under the immediate supervision of the Special Events Supervisor, will aide in the planning, coordination, and implementation of a variety of City events. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, creative problem-solver with excellent communication skills, and a passion for community engagement and recreation. This part-time role will require light travel with night and weekend availability.
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule up to 28 hours per week, including evenings and weekends.
- Strong writing and communication skills, easily explaining complex information and data.
- Ability to follow all rules, regulations and ethical conduct set forth by the City of Grove City and the City of Grove City Parks and Recreation Department.
- Must have a valid Ohio driver's license and maintain insurability under the City's vehicle insurance policy.
- The City of Grove City is a Drug Free Workplace. All candidates who receive an offer of employment will be required to undergo testing for commonly used drugs, including marijuana.
The Special Events Assistant shall have the following duties under the direction of the Special Events Supervisor:
- Demonstrates regular attendance.
- Assists Event Supervisor in planning and implementing events and programs throughout the year.
- Assists in all aspects of event day preparation and execution.
- Ability to be professional, articulate, and uses independent judgment and discretion.
- Assists and explains procedures to vendors, volunteers, and staff before, during, and after programs and events.
- Creates new events and program development.
- Assist the Event Supervisor in planning, advertising, marketing, and developing events and programs.
- Assists in developing annual events and programming budgets.
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain working relationships and partnerships.
- Obeys and promptly executes all orders of the Administrative Assistant.
- All other duties as assigned by the Special Events Supervisor.
Working Conditions and Equipment Operated
The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid, etc.) and aquatic environments; ascends and/or descends, stairs; works in or around crowds; has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; has exposure to fire, hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy weather conditions; frequently lifts objects approximately 50 lbs. frequently carries objects approximately 50 lbs. frequently pushes objects approximately 50 lbs. frequently pulls objects approximately 50 lbs.
Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered medium work.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, or picture or schedule form; interpret extensive variety of technical material in books, journals, and manuals; deal with problems involving several variables within a familiar context; apply management principles to solve agency problems; determine material and equipment needs; complete routine forms; prepare routine correspondence; prepare accurate documentation; compile and prepare reports; respond to routine inquiries from public and/or officials; communicate effectively; recognize safety warnings; understand technical manuals and/or verbal instructions; understand a variety of written and/or verbal communications; *maintain records according to established procedures; develop and maintain effective working relationships; use maintenance equipment; perform heavy manual labor; travel to and gain access to work site.
