Summary

Responsible for leading swim classes for a wide variety of age groups/skill levels.
Essential Functions and Other Important Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

DUTIES
  • Instruct and/or assist with swim classes, camps, and/or private swim lessons; assist with aquatic programming.
  • Administer periodic tests; recommend reassignments, as appropriate.
  • Complete accurate recordkeeping including, but not limited to, attendance records, completion, and issuance of certificates to participants.
  • Promote aquatic programming to participants and patrons through communication and education.
  • Stay up to date on American Red Cross certification information including, but not limited to, instructor updates, training, and in-services.
SUPERVISORY/BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES
  • None.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
  • Must have or obtain Red Cross or American Heart Association Adult CPR, AED & First Aid Certification within 30 days of employment or completed at the next City of Denton offered course (online training is not valid).

  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age.
  • Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check and social security number verification.
  • Must pass a physical examination.
  • Must be able to swim and be prepared handle emergencies.

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements

SAFETY
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment; ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing; operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Promptly report unsafe conditions in the work area and/or any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Safety Sensitive (Subject to random drug testing): Yes.
  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; kickboards, noodles, and other aquatic teaching aides.
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting, standing, stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
  • Lifting: Lifting no more than 100 pounds; carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Environment: Works prolonged time in chlorinated water, inside and/or outside in 90-105 degree heat; exposure to inclement weather, noise, debris, odor, and chemicals; may incur emersions of up to two (2) hours in pool water, typical water temperature of 78-90 degrees; occasionally requires irregular and/or prolonged hours.
  • Travel: Travels to City of Denton buildings and professional meetings as required.
  • Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
    • Must be able to work overtime or outside of normal business hours, as required.
    • Must be available for position trainings during the designated timeframe outlined for program.
    • Must be able to obtain Adult and Pediatric CPR, AED and First Aid certification by the designated timeframe outlined for program.
    • Must be able to work the designated summer seasonal program schedule, dates will adjust annually, Monday - Friday with shift times varying between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm.
