Job Description

_ A Day in the Life_

  • As an Oncology Financial Navigator in our Cancer Services Department, you will support newly diagnosed cancer patients by rendering financial counseling and identifying all possible public and private funding sources to help them financially along their journey.

  • You will work closely with the Cancer Treatment Team in developing a plan of care while attending to the financial implications and timing of medical intervention on the patient and healthcare provider.

  • You will advocate for funding to cover patients’ care and other support services. You will have daily interaction with a variety of public and private cancer care funding sources (e.g. supplemental insurance companies, foundations, trusts, charitable organizations, Medicaid, etc.)

  • The work you do will make a difference in the life of out patients. You will establish a positive, supportive relationship with newly diagnosed cancer patients, using effective customer service/interpersonal skills at all times and rendering financial counseling to address sensitive financial issues.

Qualifications:
Qualifications

_ What’s Required_

  • Bachelors Degree in Business or similar management/organizational effectiveness program is required OR Licensed as a Social Worker in the State of Michigan. Bachelor’s Degree in Social work from a CSWE (Counsel on Social Work Education) accredited college or university is required. Master’s Degree in Social Work is preferred.

  • Two to five years of experience in an acute care setting working with the financial needs of patients is preferred.

  • An understanding of cancer care and treatment is preferred.
