Job Summary and Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Market Chief Medical Officer (MCMO) is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction for the Market-especially for, but not limited to, patient safety, quality, and the activities of the medical staff. This individual will work with the Market President and the Regional CMO to develop strategic plans, establish policies, and address operational issues that strengthen relationships between the market team, facilities, medical staffs, and physicians.

The MCMO will be accountable for the Market's quality and safety operations, including the implementation of national and regional guidance, toolkits, and playbooks; resource development and deployment; safety guidelines; clinical outcomes; and national and local regulatory compliance, surveys, and accreditations. This role also partners on strategic medical affairs initiatives such as developing physician networks, joint ventures, physician relationships, physician recruitment, and physician development.

Finally, this individual must demonstrate personal and professional accountability to the community, employees, and physicians for the overall performance of the Market. This position reports directly to the Market President, with dotted-line responsibility to the Regional CMO.

Essential Function:

  • In conjunction with Market and Regional leadership, identifies and pursues opportunities to reduce the cost of health care through standardization of variation and implementation of clinically proven best practices.
  • Develops tools and approaches to appropriately manage the utilization of medical resources and the provision of care to patients.
  • Ensures that care coordination and discharge planning efforts are managed effectively.
  • Maintains a collaborative working relationship with the Chief Nursing Officers across the Market.
  • Develops and implements Market strategic plans and innovative patient safety and clinical quality improvement programs.
  • Oversees physician orientation, onboarding, and continuing education.
  • Provides oversight for facilities to ensure they achieve regulatory compliance regarding credentialing, governance, and peer review for the medical staffs.
  • Responsible for driving clinical performance consistent with the goals of CommonSpirit.
  • Leads efforts to maximize clinical performance across all value-based metrics within the Market.
  • Collaboratively develops and directs strategies to build and broaden Regional and Market relationships with physicians, medical staff, and potential referring physicians within the operating group.
  • Assesses the Market related to physician activity for the respective service area and develops coordinated strategies to further CommonSpirit, Regional, and Market initiatives.
  • Assists the Market President, hospital entity CEOs, and Regional CMO in assessing and developing Market opportunities to further the strategic goals and plans for the operating group.
Job Requirements

Minimum:

Education and Experience:
  • 5 or more years of medical practice.
  • 5 or more years of acute care hospital CMO experience or a comparable formal senior leadership role.
  • Advanced degree in business, medical, or healthcare management (preferred).
  • Active medical license in the hospital's state.
  • Board certification in an American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or National Board of Physicians and Surgeons (NBPAS) specialty.
  • Outstanding communication and change management skills, with the ability to influence physicians and leaders, and demonstrable humankindness.
Licensure:
  • Doctor of Medicine: NV (MD:NV) or Doctor Osteopathic Medicine: NV (DO:NV)
  • Certified Public Accountant: NV (CPA:NV) Preferred
