Position Overview :

Bluestone Physician Services is seeking a Principal Analyst to serve as the subject matter expert and technical leader for Bluestone’s strategic VBC analytics initiatives.  This role is designed to significantly scale our analytical capability by building robust systems, standardizing processes, and automating repetitive work, thereby expanding Bluestone’s analytical capacity for strategic influence and operational excellence. 

Schedule: Full time position, regular business hours Monday thru Friday.

Location: This position will be a mix of work from home and in-office 1-2 days per week at our offices located in downtown Stillwater, MN.

Salary: $105,000 - $120,000 annually. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities :

  • Analytics Systems & Scaling: Design, and implement reusable analytical systems, automated reporting, and data products that scale VBC and operational insights. Identify areas to reduce repetitive work, and maximize the data efficiencies.  

  • Collaborate with clinical, operational, and executive teams to define key performance metrics and develop reporting frameworks that support strategic organizational  initiatives across the business.

  • Contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of advanced analytics models using tools like SQL, and LookerML to deliver insights that improve clinical and operational performance within a value-based care context, including HCC coding accuracy, quality measure performance, and claims utilization.

  • Collaborate with the data architecture team on the integration and management of healthcare data from various internal and external sources (EHR systems, claims data, etc.), ensuring data integrity, quality, and compliance with regulatory standards relevant to value-based care.

  • Perform hands-on technical work including creating custom queries, dashboards, and reports for high-priority value-based care projects, such as those related to HCC risk adjustment, quality measure gaps, and claims cost analysis.

  • Ensure timely delivery of high-quality analytics solutions to guide decision-making processes in value-based care.

  • Support the exploration of emerging BI technologies and methodologies to enhance the team's efficiency and capabilities in value-based care analytics.

  • Stay informed of regulatory changes affecting healthcare data reporting and ensure compliance with all relevant guidelines (e.g., CMS, HIPAA), specifically focusing on those impacting HCC coding, quality measures (e.g., STARS, HEDIS), and claims submissions.

  • Integrate claims and EHR data to identify trends, cost drivers, and opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements within value-based care models.

  • Develop reporting and internal performance benchmarks related to key VBC initiatives such as diagnostic coding accuracy, quality measures, total cost reduction for all value-based care contracts.  

Qualifications :

Education/Certification/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, healthcare administration, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.

  • 7-10 years of experience in data analytics, with at least 2+ years in a leadership or senior analyst role, ideally within a healthcare or primary care setting, and significant experience in value-based care analytics.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Strong proficiency with SQL for querying and managing large datasets. Familiarity with LookerML for building data models is a plus.

  • Expertise in business intelligence tools like Looker, Tableau, or Power BI for creating dashboards and generating actionable insights from healthcare data, with a focus on value-based care metrics.

  • Hands-on experience building analytical models from data imported from healthcare clinical and administrative systems (e.g., EHR, pharmacy, claims), specifically for value-based care applications.

  • Proven ability to collaborate with data analysts while staying hands-on with technical work related to value-based care data.

  • Understanding of data integration and reporting methodologies in healthcare, particularly for value-based care programs.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data insights into actionable business recommendations for value-based care initiatives.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail and data accuracy.

  • Familiarity with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA and experience with regulatory reporting (e.g., quality measures, ACO metrics) is essential.

  • Preferred: Experience applying Lean Six Sigma principles (e.g., DMAIC methodology, Value Stream Mapping, Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to analytical workflow optimization, process standardization, and reducing variability in data reporting
