Radiation Therapy Specialist
Location: New York, NY
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Compensation: $90,000 - $115,000

RCM Health Care Services is excited to collaborate with a prestigious hospital system in search of a skilled Radiation Therapy Specialist to become a vital part of their Radiation Oncology Department. This full-time, weekday role offers job security, robust clinical support, and the chance to engage with cutting-edge radiation therapy technology.

Role Overview
The Radiation Therapy Specialist is responsible for delivering safe and accurate radiation treatments as prescribed by physicians. Under the guidance of the Chief Radiation Medicine Technologist, you will prioritize high-quality patient care, meticulous documentation, and strict adherence to clinical standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and position patients for treatment in alignment with established protocols
  • Review treatment charts, prescriptions, and necessary equipment prior to each session
  • Communicate procedures clearly, providing reassurance and support to patients throughout their treatment
  • Assist in transferring and positioning patients from wheelchair to treatment table
  • Set up and operate radiation therapy equipment to deliver prescribed dosages
  • Utilize blocks, wedges, and treatment accessories appropriately
  • Monitor patients during treatment via intercom systems and screens
  • Assess and document patient conditions for skin reactions and alert physicians as necessary
  • Ensure proper documentation of blood counts and port films weekly
  • Perform dosage calculations in the absence of the Radiation Physicist
  • Assist the Physicist with treatment planning measurements and verifications
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of all treatments and patient changes
  • Keep treatment equipment clean and operational, ensuring safety protocols are followed
  • Report any equipment issues promptly and maintain well-stocked treatment rooms
  • Handle clerical and technical tasks, including appointment scheduling and records management
  • Stay current with advancements in radiation therapy techniques
  • Uphold patient confidentiality, infection control policies, and hospital standards

Qualifications

Education:
- Associate's degree in Radiation Medicine or equivalent from an accredited program

Experience:
- 3-6 months of on-the-job training or equivalent clinical experience
- Familiarity with radiation therapy equipment and departmental procedures

Skills:
- Strong analytical skills for treatment calculations and recognizing patient reactions
- Excellent interpersonal and patient-care communication capabilities
- Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, physicists, and clinical staff
