Must-Have:

- Medical Degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.

- Board Certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.

- Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency program in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.

- Clinical experience in primary care, including management of acute and chronic conditions.

- Experience in clinical supervision.

- Training and experience in performing pelvic exams, Pap smears, and STI screening/treatment.

- Experience with preventive care, contraception counseling, and reproductive health services.

- Recent experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems and telemedicine.

Description:

The Lead Physician provides medical oversight and clinical supervision within Student Health Services.

This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based healthcare for the university community.

It includes direct patient care, supervision of clinical staff, and assisting in shaping student health initiatives.

The Lead Physician partners with leadership to define and implement a clinical vision that supports the overall well-being of students.

This position is responsible for upholding clinical standards, coordinating peer and chart reviews, and ensuring adherence to best practices in medical care.

They provide hands-on supervision to medical providers, supervision of physician assistants, oversee academic medical rotations, and respond to clinical emergencies.

The Lead Physician works with all staff to coordinate the best possible patient experience, ensuring seamless, patient-centered care that meets the evolving needs of the campus community.

Clinically, the Lead Physician will diagnose and manage acute and chronic illnesses, perform pelvic exams and reproductive health services, provide preventive care and health education, and coordinate referrals to specialty and emergency care as needed.

They will also work closely with counseling services to facilitate integrated care for students.

The ideal candidate has a track record of innovative problem-solving, culturally competent care, and effective leadership in a student health or primary care outpatient setting.

They should possess the ability to engage and mentor staff, communicate empathetically, and cultivate a clinical environment that prioritizes excellence, mutual respect, and trust.

Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems and state electronic prescribing protocols is essential.

Additionally, the Lead Physician will participate in health education, community outreach, and university-wide wellness initiatives, supporting the vast health needs of students.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Clinical Responsibilities:

The Lead Physician will provide direct patient care and ensure the highest medical standards are met in student health services.

Primary and Urgent Care: Diagnose and manage acute and chronic illnesses, provide preventive care, and coordinate specialty referrals.

Sexual & Reproductive Health: Perform pelvic exams, Pap smears, STI screening and treatment, and contraception counseling.

Health Screenings & Preventive Care: Conduct sports physicals, study abroad exams, and general wellness visits for students.

Mental Health Support: Collaborate with counseling services to manage mental health concerns and ensure integrated care.

Health Education & Outreach: Lead student health education initiatives, including sexual health, preventive care, and harm reduction strategies.

Emergency Response & Triage: Provide urgent care for student injuries and illnesses, ensuring proper referrals when needed.

Electronic Health Records (EHR) & Compliance: Maintain accurate, timely medical documentation and adhere to electronic prescribing requirements.

Administrative & Leadership Responsibilities:

The Lead Physician will provide medical oversight, training, and quality assurance in student health services.

Clinical Supervision & Peer Review: Oversee and support nurse practitioners, registered physician assistants, registered nurses, and clinical staff, ensuring adherence to evidence-based care.

Medical Protocol & Policy Development: Maintain and update clinical guidelines, standing orders, and policies in compliance with state regulations.

Training & Professional Development: Provide clinical training for staff and students, oversee academic medical rotations, and participate in continuing education.

Quality Improvement & Compliance: Lead chart reviews, risk management initiatives, and patient safety programs to enhance the quality of care.

Public Health & Campus Wellness Programs: Collaborate on university-wide health initiatives, prevention efforts, and public health campaigns.

Professional Development and Committee Involvement:

Participate in opportunities that promote learning, growth, and development.

Contribute to the Division of Student Affairs by attending and/or supporting events, activities, and programs.

Other duties or projects as assigned appropriate to rank and department.
