Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: The Licensed Psychiatric Technician performs general nursing procedures, behavior management, direct care and training as dictated by the individuals' health and behavioral care needs. Performs nursing procedures as authorized within the scope of practice. Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team and contributes to the development of the Individual Support Plan. The LPT may function as lead staff on the shift and may oversee Direct Support Professionals (DSPs).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs all procedures within LPT scope practice.
  • Assist and teach residents in self-care, self-administration of medications, and independent living skills; i.e. including and not limited to bathing, dressing, feeding, and grooming. Assist and train residents in activities of daily living, personal hygiene, and household activities; such as grocery shopping, food preparation, serving and clean-up.
  • Implements Behavior Plans and Health Care Plans.
  • May be a member of the Interdisciplinary Team in designated aspects of the development and implementation of the Individual Service Plan (ISP) and IPP outcomes, and overall programming for residents.
  • Assists residents in occupational, recreational, vocational, and therapeutic programs.
  • Maintains a safe, sanitary, and therapeutic environment which promotes respect and dignity for residents and protects the privacy, rights, confidentiality, and physical/emotional well-being of residents.
  • Engages residents in activities that provide opportunities for learning and practice of skills tailored to the specific needs of the resident.
  • Assists and teaches residents in the constructive use of leisure time. Encourages residents to participate in planned recreational activities.
  • Actively supervises during dining, recreational activities, medical and other appointments. Knows and reports the whereabouts of the assigned residents at all times.
  • Transports residents in the company vehicle to medical, recreational and/or other appointments.
  • Attends staff meetings, including but not limited to in-services and training sessions.
  • Maintains all required trainings and certifications as required by regulations and Elwyn California.
  • Reports and documents behavior/medical concerns and other special incidents to proper supervisory personnel.
  • Remains on duty until relieved by incoming staff.
  • Consistently demonstrates the ability to maintain quality assurance standards and promotes Elwyn California goals and objectives in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures.
  • Continually works with staff members in creating a professional and amiable atmosphere; encourages and supports co-workers to work as a team.
  • Gives ongoing constructive feedback to DSPs as needed by acting as the lead staff on shift.
  • Demonstrates the ability to adapt to changes in workload.
  • Assists with health care and/or behavioral needs and documents appropriately.
  • Completes assigned work in a timely manner and strives to make good use of time.
  • Gives feedback to Program Administrator and/or shift lead regarding any issues affecting home operations and resident care including immediate notification of any changes in care needs.
  • Seeks helps and/or guidance from co-workers and/or shift lead as appropriate.
  • Responds to emergencies appropriately as directed by all health/behavior plans, regulations, and/or policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possess and maintain a valid, active license from the State of California to practice as a Licensed Psychiatric Technician.
  • Minimum 1 year experience with Human Services field preferred.
  • Must complete a DOJ and FBI fingerprint and criminal clearance and be free of convictions barring employment in this position under applicable statute or regulation.
  • Must have a valid health screening with clear TB test within 1 year prior to hire or no later than 7 days after hire.
  • Upon hire, must complete all trainings as required by applicable regulations, including but not limited to: DSP1, DSP2, First Aid, CPR/AED certifications.
  • Must possess a current, valid driver's license in state of residence, have a minimum of two (2) years of driving experience within the United States, and have an acceptable driving record.
