Job Description

I&C Technician - Nuclear

Immediate need at Oconee Nuclear Station. Must have been badged at a nuclear plant less than 30 days ago, preferably a Duke plant.

A Nuclear Instrumentation and Controls Technician is a highly skilled professional responsible for the safe installation, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of complex instrumentation and control systems within a nuclear facility. This role requires a deep understanding of various types of instrumentation and control systems, ensuring the precise and reliable operation of critical equipment. Must be able to obtain nuclear unescorted access, including meeting fitness for duty requirements.

Essential Functions:
  • Demonstrate knowledge and capabilities in the theory, installation, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of general instrumentation and controls, including:
  • Pressure, flow, and temperature instrumentation, including gauges, transmitters, and switches.
  • Ultrasonic and radar flow and level transmitters and sensors.
  • Soldering.
  • Wire terminations, including splicing, lugging, and Raychem, in accordance with design standards.
  • Instrumentation tube installation, including bending, cutting, and Swagelok fittings.
  • Current, voltage, and watt meters.
  • Digital recorders and devices.
  • Programmable logic controllers.
  • Digital systems.
Proficiency in the use and understanding of: Electrical elementary drawings. Wiring diagrams. Process and instrumentation diagrams. Flow diagrams. General layout drawings. Experience in functional testing to verify safe and proper operation of systems and equipment prior to and after initial equipment/system operation, including: Control circuits. Permissive. Trips. Maintain a clean work area and ensure good housekeeping. Perform other related duties as assigned.Required Education and Experience:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience.
  • Prior nuclear power plant experience, highly desired.
  • Must be able to obtain nuclear unescorted access, including fitness for duty requirements.
  • Successful completion of all training including, Radiation Worker Training, Plant Access Training, Fitness for Duty, etc.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to assemble and disassemble objects and operate small equipment and power tools.
  • Availability for shift work, if needed.
  • Ability to support other crafts as requested.
  • Ability to work at varying heights, in cramped quarters, extreme heat and/or cold, and loud environments (above 89 decibels).
  • Knowledge of relevant processes and procedures.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain knowledge of technical manuals and procedures.
  • Ability to pass specific training and qualifications.
  • Willingness to work overtime, including shift work, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to pass all background and screening requirements, including drug and/or alcohol screening.
