Summary
Lee Health is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Hospital Claims Billing Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will help ensure timely and accurate reimbursement that supports our mission of delivering exceptional care to our community.
Position Summary
The Hospital Claims Billing Specialist is responsible for hospital claims billing, follow-up, and denial resolution. This role plays a key part in reconciling accounts receivable and working assigned reports, with an emphasis on producing high volumes of accurate work. The specialist utilizes all appropriate avenues of reimbursement prior to assigning an account to self-pay and tracks issues and trends to support continuous improvement.
This position requires strong critical thinking skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and a commitment to excellent customer service in a fast-paced, ever-changing health system environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit hospital claims accurately and timely.
- Perform follow-up on outstanding hospital claims to ensure prompt reimbursement.
- Research and resolve claim denials, including identifying root causes and taking corrective actions.
- Reconcile accounts receivable and work assigned reports to maintain accurate account status.
- Apply appropriate adjustments and exhaust all reimbursement options before assigning an account to self-pay.
- Track recurring problems and trends and report findings to Management.
- Maintain positive employee and customer relations at all times.
- Provide excellent customer service when interacting with patients, payers, and internal teams.
- Work independently and collaboratively within a positive team environment.
- Previous healthcare or financial-related experience required.
- Prior experience with insurance collections in a hospital or medical office setting preferred.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle high volumes of work while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and perform effectively under stress.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Friendly personality and consistently positive attitude.
