The Division of Neonatology at the University of Utah School of Medicine has an opening for an Academic Neonatologist. The Neonatologist will provide clinical care for neonatology patients including shared night call and weekend responsibilities at each of its four Level III/IV Newborn Intensive Care Units (University Hospital, Primary Children's Hospital Salt Lake Campus, Primary Children's Miller Campus, and Intermountain Medical Center). Active clinical programs and supported initiatives include neonatal/perinatal transfusion medicine, neonatal hematology, clinical trials, ECMO, whole body hypothermia, Neuro NICU, perioperative care, Neo-AI, POCUS, Genetics and Genomics, Neo Pharmacology, Global Health, and all aspects of neonatal critical care, including a dedicated Neo-Cardiology team. Initial expectation is approximately 18 weeks of clinical service time annually.

In addition to clinical service, there is an expectation for academic work including education, investigation, administration/service, as well as advocacy. The Neonatologist will be expected to pursue scholarly research including individual or collaborative research, grant development, and written/oral presentations of research, with mentoring support. Opportunities for collaborative research exist within the Division as well as throughout the medical school and University for bench, translational, and clinical areas of investigation. The Division is a member of the NICHD Neonatal Research Network. Of specific interest are individuals with skill and experience in point of care ultrasound, simulation training and education, telehealth, and clinical research. Teaching consists largely of supervising and training neonatology fellows, pediatric residents, and medical students during inpatient service and clinics. Participation in weekly Neonatal Grand Rounds didactic presentation is expected. Cross service teaching with other faculty, fellows, and multiple other levels of health care providers may also be available, depending on the expertise and interests of the individual.

Qualified candidates must be Board Eligible/Board Certified in Pediatrics and in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, with excellent procedural and clinical skills, and must possess the required skills to conduct research/scholarly activities. The selected candidate will receive a faculty appointment in the Department of Pediatrics on the Clinical or Tenure track at the academic level commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The Department and University offers a competitive salary and exceptional benefits program including non-contributory retirement contributions of 20.2% of annual salary. The Department offers a faculty development and mentoring program designed to foster success in clinical, translational or basic research, quality improvement engagement, and excellence as educators.
