Why this job matters:

We are seeking a skilled and collaborative Data Engineer to join our Advanced Analytics organization. This role is focused on enabling analytics and insights by enhancing and maintaining data warehouse and data mart structures. The Sr Data Engineer (DE) will collaborate directly with Data Warehousing, Data Science, and Governance teams to drive operational efficiency through building data assets. This role will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining robust data pipelines, models, and assets that support enterprise-wide advanced analytics, insights, and reporting.

Vital to various initiatives, the Sr. DE should be curious and ready to learn various facets of the healthcare data sources, establish sustainable practices, and build relationships with other technical teams. The ideal candidate will be ready to support innovation while leveraging operational principles.

What you will do:
  • Partner with analytics teams to understand data requirements and translate them into data warehouse/mart enhancements.
  • Leverage Matillion and Snowflake platforms to build ELT/ETL workflows, pipelines, views, and data structures optimized for analytics
  • Design and implement quality monitoring and alerting systems for reliability and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with Governance to ensure proper data catalog and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with data architects and IT to ensure alignment with enterprise data strategies and conduct design reviews.
What you need to succeed:
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology) or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to commute 2 days a week to 500 Exchange St, Providence, RI.
  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering
  • Proven ability to work in Agile environments and manage multiple priorities
  • Proven experience working with data warehouses, data marts, and dimensional modeling
  • Experience with healthcare data (CPT, ICD-10, etc.) as well as HL7 standards
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally
  • Familiarity with Machine Learning and Statistical Analysis.
  • Expert in SQL development, relational data modeling, and DBT.
  • Experienced with:
  • Cloud data platforms/tools like Snowflake.
  • ETL tools such as Matillion, or IBM Datastage.
  • Python or other scripting languages (R, SAS).
  • CI/CD, DevOps, and Agile methodologies.
  • Unit and automated testing.
  • Visualization tools like PowerBI or Tableau.
  • Spark, Kafka, Iceberg
Location:
BCBSRI is headquartered in downtown Providence, conveniently located near the train station and bus terminal. We actively support associate well-being and work/life balance and offer the following schedules, based on role:
  • In-office: onsite 5 days per week
  • Hybrid: onsite 2-4 days per week
  • Remote: onsite 0-1 days per week. Permitted to reside in the following states, pending approval from the Human Resources Department: Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia
