SSM Health-Dean Medical Group, a robust multi-specialty group comprising 500 physicians, is actively seeking a skilled Physician Assistant specializing in Cardiothoracic Surgery. Join our well-established Cardiothoracic Surgery Department, currently comprised of 3 physicians and 6 advanced practice providers (APs). We require candidates to have relevant post-educational experience as a practicing Physician Assistant in the field of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
Our hospital boasts leading-edge robotic surgery capabilities, making us one of the few centers nationwide to provide both robotic cardiac and thoracic surgery. We perform an extensive range of adult cardiac and thoracic surgeries, including CABG, valve surgery, aortic aneurysms and dissections, as well as pulmonary resections and decortications. Please note that we do not provide ventricular assist devices.
As our ideal candidate, you will have surgical first assist experience and a strong passion for the operating room. You must be prepared to thrive in a high-functioning team environment. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting in the operating room (including endoscopic and open vein and radial artery harvesting)
- Providing patient care on the Cardiothoracic Surgery inpatient unit
- Participating in night call on weeknights and weekends (anticipated frequency of 1 in 6 for each) for floor patients and the operating room
- Occasional outpatient clinic care, though primarily focused on inpatient and OR responsibilities
For weekend setups, your role involves rounding and being on call from home for the operating room. Full-time intensivists will manage patient care, while floor patients will be overseen by physician assistants, with call handled from home via phone.
