Essential Functions

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Drives and operates bus to transport residents to and from program activities. Drives handicapped-accessible bus for fixed and non-fixed passenger routes. Assists handicapped and senior passengers in embarking and disembarking vehicles. Makes deliveries and pick-ups as required.

Transports department program participants, City officials, residents and guests, etc. as required for various events.

Per regulations performs daily pre- and post-trip inspections on vehicles.

Maintains various logs, checklists, and completes all required documentation.

Performs general office work as required, including but not limited to answering the telephone and two-way radio, etc. Operates general office equipment as necessary.

Assists in program activities as required.

Interacts and communicates with immediate supervisor, other departmental supervisors and employees, other City personnel, clients/passengers, and the general public.

Maintains fueling and cleaning of transportation vehicles and reports problems to supervisor.

Will be required to perform job responsibilities as assigned both pre and post disaster situations.

Will be required to work varied shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performs general housekeeping and light maintenance work as required.

Picks up and delivers supplies, packages and other items as required.

Performs additional duties as assigned as they relate to meeting departmental needs.
Minimum Qualifications

Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by 1 year of CDL passenger driving experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid state class "B" CDL driver's license with passenger endorsement. Must obtain First Aid and CPR certifications. Employee will be subjected to a background screening. Bilingual preferred.
Position Requirements/Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Two (2) years of CDL passenger driving experience
• Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Valid state class "B" CDL driver's license with passenger endorsement
• Approved Florida Department of Transportation Medical Examination Report for Bus Transit System Driver
• Must obtain First Aid and CPR certifications.
• Employee will be subjected to a level I and level II background screening, and random drug and alcohol testing.

GENERAL BENEFITS:

The City of Miramar provides benefits for its permanent full-time and part-time employees. Vacation
Permanent full-time employees earn up to ten days of vacation during their first year of employment. Accrual begins from the first month of employment, but cannot be used until after the third month of employment.

Permanent part-time employees have the opportunity to earn vacation after the completion of one year of continuous service.

Sick Leave
Permanent full-time employees accrue sick leave at the rate of one day per month. Accrual begins from the first month of employment, but cannot be used until after the third month of employment.

Permanent part-time employees have the opportunity to earn sick leave after the completion of one year of continuous service.

Health Plan
The City currently provides medical coverage through Aetna. The City pays the health insurance premium for the employee and 50% of the premium for dependents.

Permanent full-time employees have the option of electing coverage from three plans: Health Network Only Plan (HMO), High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with HSA and Open Access Managed Choice Plan (POS).

Permanent part-time employees have the option of electing coverage from two plans: Health Network Only Plan (HMO) and the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP)
The City also offers Dental coverage through Delta Dental.

Pension (Defined Benefit Plan)

Permanent full-time employees are automatically enrolled in one of the City sponsored pension plans, which are funded by mandatory City and employee contributions. The Plan provides a guaranteed income, based on years of service, to its members upon retirement.
457(b) Plan (Deferred Compensation Plan)

Employees can elect to participate in this Plan, which enables the employee the option of deferring compensation on a pretax basis, not to exceed the applicable limits established by the IRC.
