The University at Albany, State University of New York, seeks an Assistant or Associate Professor in Counseling Psychology. This position will be housed in the Division of Counseling Psychology, within the Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology, with teaching responsibilities in the APA-accredited Ph.D. program in Counseling Psychology and MPCAC-accredited Master's program in Mental Health Counseling. We seek a scholar with an active and productive program of research, with a strong promise of obtaining external funding; the area of research focus is open.
Candidates should be able to teach or oversee undergraduate and graduate courses in one or more of the following areas: theories of counseling, group counseling, behavior disorders, vocational psychology, assessment, substance use treatment and prevention, clinical practicum, and/or internship, as well as other graduate counseling courses as needed. The ability to teach core courses in psychology is desirable, although not required. Candidates must be sensitive to the needs of and possess an interest in working in an academic community that is diverse with regard to gender, race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, sexual orientation or identity, disability status, and protected veteran status.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, conducting innovative research and publishing in peer-reviewed journals; securing external funding to support programmatic research; rigorous teaching of undergraduate, doctoral, and master's courses (online and in-person); advising doctoral and master's students; chairing and serving on doctoral dissertation committees; presenting research at professional meetings; supervising doctoral-level practica at the University's training clinic; taking on or sharing leadership roles within the Division; and service to the Department, School, University, community, and profession.
Primary Responsibilities:

Conducting innovative research and publishing in peer-reviewed journals, including presenting research at professional meetings, securing external funding to support programmatic research and chairing and serving on doctoral dissertation committees

Rigorous teaching of undergraduate, doctoral and master's courses (online and in-person), including supervising doctoral-level practica at the University's training clinic

Service to the Division, Department, College/School, University, community, and profession, including participating in admissions, advising and mentoring doctoral and master's students
Functional and Supervisory Relationships:

Reports to: Division Director, Counseling Psychology

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from a college or University accredited by an accreditor recognized by the US Department of Education or by an internationally recognized accrediting organization by August 15 2026.

Record of published research requisite for an appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor in the field of counseling psychology.

Applicants must address in their applications their ability to work with a culturally diverse population.

Applicants must have documented experience, plans, and ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in varying modalities (in-person, online, and/or hybrid).

Applicants must have a demonstrated potential for obtaining external funding for their research.

Applicants must have training and/or experience supervising practica.

Applicants must be licensed, or license eligible, as a psychologist in New York State.
Preferred Qualifications:
