Job Description:
About the Team
The Fixed Income Strategies Group manages approximately $14 billion across the fixed income spectrum, in separate actively managed portfolios focused on rates, Structured Products, Investment Grade credit, High Yield credit, and Leveraged Loans. Each portfolio seeks income and capital appreciation using a disciplined, repeatable investment process tailored to its sector, which includes robust risk allocation and management. Within this structure, investment professionals are empowered to meaningfully influence portfolio outcomes.
Position Overview
SWIB is seeking a Quantitative Analyst to join its Fixed Income Team. This internship offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in applying quantitative techniques to portfolio management and investment research within the fixed income markets. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and eager to apply quantitative skills to real-world financial challenges.
Essential activities:
- Assist in the design and testing of systematic strategies and analytics to identify investment opportunities.
- Perform data collection, cleaning, and statistical analysis using large and complex financial datasets.
- Prepare clear documentation and present findings to portfolio managers.
- Contribute to process improvement by automating repetitive tasks and enhancing existing research tools.
- Special projects as assigned.
- Ability to work in Madison, WI for an approximate 10-week period, beginning Summer of 2026.
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related quantitative field.
- Strong programming skills in one or more languages such as Python, R or SQL.
- Understanding of practical mathematical and quantitative techniques.
- Understanding of quantitative investment portfolio concepts.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking skills.
- Advanced analytical and quantitative skills.
- Ability to work with and organize large data sets for statistical analysis including familiarity with database management.
