Description:
The Clinical Nurse (RN) has the responsibility, accountability, and authority to deliver safe, effective, quality, excellent nursing care according to the philosophy and goals of the Department of Nursing.
The RN utilizes caring theories and professional nursing practice models to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for all patients assigned to their care.
The RN makes determinations regarding the progress of the patient toward goals and utilizes a therapeutic professional relationship with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team to facilitate the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of health.
Care is provided according to the specific physiologic, developmental, and psychosocial needs of the patient.
The RN supports the mission, vision, values, and expectations of excellence of the organization.
The RN will be considered competent when they consistently demonstrate the ability to transfer scientific knowledge from social, biological, and physical sciences in applying the nursing process.
The RN provides care that is consistent with the interdisciplinary plan of care and grounded in the principles of Relationship-Based Care.
The RN assesses the patient's physical and psychosocial condition on an ongoing basis and formulates nursing diagnoses through observation, and interpretation of information obtained from the patient and others, including the health team.
The RN formulates a care plan in collaboration with the patient, ensuring that direct and indirect nursing care services provide for the patient's safety, comfort, hygiene, and protection as well as for disease prevention and restorative measures.
The RN performs skills essential to the kind of nursing action to be taken, explains healthcare treatment to the patient and family, and teaches the patient and family how to care for their health needs.
The effectiveness of the care plan is evaluated through observation of the patient's physical condition and behavior, signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to treatment, and communication with the patient and the health team.
The RN modifies the care plan as needed.
The RN demonstrates a current working knowledge and safe use of equipment, instrumentation, and medications.
Tasks are delegated to care team members based on their legal scopes of practice and the preparation and capability needed for the tasks to be delegated, while effectively supervising nursing care given by the care team.
The RN acts as the patient's advocate, initiating action to improve healthcare or change decisions that are against the interests or wishes of the patient, while providing the patient the opportunity to make informed decisions about healthcare before it is provided.
Culturally competent, age-appropriate, ethical care is provided within legal standards of practice.
The RN acts as a liaison coordinating patient care activities with nurses, physicians, allied health professionals, and ancillary care team members.
The RN utilizes effective communication skills to facilitate safe patient handoffs.
Documentation of nursing care is performed per hospital policies.
Manual and automated information systems are utilized to improve efficiency and effect productivity.
The RN is accountable to meet or exceed unit and organizational goals regarding patient satisfaction and contributes to positive patient care experiences through individual interactions with patients and families.
The RN is responsible for understanding the impact of personal behaviors on patient experience and assists in the resolution of complaints with the goal of immediate resolution when possible.
The RN investigates complaints and provides information to the appropriate clinical manager.
Other duties may be assigned as needed.
The RN must possess proficient written, verbal, and electronic communication skills.
All physical duties of the job are performed, requiring lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and fine motor skills.
Completion of annual organizational requirements for employment is necessary.
