About This Position:
We are excited to invite a skilled Clinical Pharmacist to join our dedicated team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. We are particularly interested in candidates who are available for morning shifts.
Position Overview:
The Clinical Pharmacist plays a vital role in providing patient-centered pharmaceutical care while working under the supervision of a senior clinical pharmacist or manager. This position involves evaluating and interpreting medication orders, dispensing medications, and ensuring compliance with established procedures and laws.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and evaluate medication orders for accuracy, addressing discrepancies through collaboration with physicians, clinical pharmacists, or nursing staff.
- Assess the feasibility of compounding or verify the compounding of medications, recommending alternatives as needed.
- Prepare IV admixtures and compound sterile products, including large volume parenterals, TPN solutions, and cytotoxic agents.
- Respond independently to non-evaluative drug information requests from healthcare professionals.
- Monitor and optimize patient drug therapy while minimizing adverse reactions, under supervision.
- Review patient profiles to identify contraindications and ensure appropriateness of drug therapy based on therapeutic intent and patient needs.
- Dispense controlled substances, ensuring adherence to legal requirements and departmental policies.
- Provide technical supervision to pharmacy support personnel and oversee their workflow to maintain efficient operations.
- Accurately input and verify medication orders in the computer system, and counsel patients/families on medication usage and potential side effects.
Qualifications:
Education:
Doctoral degree (PharmD) or equivalent from an accredited College of Pharmacy is required.
Experience:
1-2 years of direct patient care experience in a hospital setting is required, with PGY-1 residency preferred.
Licenses and Certifications:
Registered Pharmacist Licensure (RPH) in Washington, DC is mandatory. Board certification is preferred.

- Ability to effectively advise and collaborate with colleagues to facilitate effective teamwork.
- Independent judgment and critical thinking skills to analyze situations and develop appropriate solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with basic computer proficiency.
This position offers a competitive salary range of USD $102,606.00 - USD $196,996.00 per year.
