Leidos is searching for talented Distribution Engineers and Distribution Designers who are enthusiastic about electric utility design engineering. This position is hybrid, based out of the Pittsburgh area, with an expectation for some regional travel (approximately 20%).

Typical Day:

  • 10%-30% client interaction via remote communication
  • 60%-80% dedicated to engineering and developing design packages for our customers
  • 10% allocated to administration, planning, and following up with clients

As a Distribution Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Independently creating design and construction work packages for overhead and underground electrical distribution systems for Leidos' utility clients
  • Evaluating client-provided work and analyzing scope requirements
  • Executing engineering calculations, including structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, conductor sag and tension specifications, as well as voltage drop and flicker calculations
  • Offering engineering support during construction and conducting post-construction reviews to ensure compliance with engineering and construction standards
  • Performing root cause analysis of outages, along with developing mitigation strategies utilizing engineering principles and design
  • Gaining experience in coordinating conflicting utilities and the design requirements needed for field engineering, including developing substantial design packages for complex projects in urban settings, as well as work permit development and easements

What You Bring (Background Requirements):

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution; additional relevant experience/certification may substitute for degree
  • Experience managing distribution projects from initiation through design approval, including customer interaction and process documentation
  • Background in utility reliability projects
  • Proficient knowledge of NESC standards
  • Ability to travel for client engagements (travel reimbursement follows IRS-approved rates)
  • A willingness to balance both fieldwork and office tasks, with occasional outdoor work; site visits may be needed to collect data
  • A valid U.S. driver's license, as local or regional travel is expected

You May Also Have Experience With:

  • Previous QAQC experience
  • Estimating costs, developing bills of materials (BOM), and calculating Contributions in Aid of Construction (CIAC)
  • Design tools such as Pole Foreman, O-Calc, and Spida-Calc
  • Work Management Systems like CREWS
  • Management or leadership experience of 1 year or more
  • Experience with utility provider FirstEnergy or its subsidiaries

Compensation: Pay Range: $59,150.00 - $106,925.00. This range is a guideline and not a guarantee of pay. Other factors considered in extending an offer include responsibilities, experience, skills, and abilities, alongside alignment with internal equity and market data.
