Overview

The Senior Data Security Engineer will lead the organization's objectives to identify, assess, and evaluate potential vulnerabilities and threats to classified data. This position involves conducting regular data risk assessments, recommending controls and countermeasures to lessen identified risks, and monitoring the effectiveness of implemented security measures.

Salary Range

The annual salary range for this position is $60,000.00 - $121,300.00. Final compensation will depend on location, skills, experience, qualifications, and the career level at which the position is filled.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive data protection strategies, including classification, access controls, inventory, encryption, and retention.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to enforce data protection policies and comply with regulatory requirements.
• Establish and maintain data security policies and procedures, ensuring widespread adherence across the organization.
• Manage data inventories and flows while enhancing data sharing controls in partnership with cross-functional teams.
• Design and implement robust data access controls to ensure only authorized personnel access classified data.
• Create and enforce data retention policies and procedures to ensure compliance with internal guidelines and external regulations.
• Develop and implement encryption standards to secure data both at rest and in transit.
• Lead incident response efforts related to data breaches and work collaboratively with stakeholders to mitigate impacts.
• Conduct regular data risk assessments to uncover potential vulnerabilities and threats to the organization’s data and systems.
• Stay updated on current trends in cybersecurity and ensure alignment of risk assessment and data security processes with industry best practices.
• Represent the organization in external meetings and interactions with clients, stakeholders, and industry experts as needed.

Key Competencies

• Demonstrated experience with data discovery, classification, handling, access, inventory, and retention.
• Proficient in data protection technologies such as encryption, tokenization, and data loss prevention tools.
• Expertise in designing and implementing data security solutions for enterprise environments.
• Strong understanding of data protection regulations and standards.
• Experience in developing and implementing data protection strategies and frameworks.
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively across various teams.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Information Security, Risk Management, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in data protection, information security, or risk management.
• Familiarity with data governance frameworks (e.g., DCAM, NIST Privacy Framework, FFIEC).
