Position Description

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL), a world-renowned biomedical research institution, is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Custodian to join our Facilities team. In this role, you'll be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable environment across a variety of spaces, including research buildings, residential housing, and guest accommodations. This is a great opportunity to contribute to the daily operations of a world-class scientific community while working in a supportive and team-oriented environment. Your work will directly support the comfort and well-being of our staff, researchers, and visitors.

Position Responsibilities

  • Performing light and heavy cleaning duties in various areas throughout the Laboratory.
  • Supporting Laboratory events by providing porter services and assisting in moving furniture and equipment.
  • Cleaning office and laboratory spaces, conference rooms, restrooms, and other work areas.
  • Supplying and maintaining cleanliness in restrooms and kitchenettes.
  • Performing floor cleaning, carpet maintenance, and upholstery cleaning.
  • Dusting and polishing furniture, window blinds, and other surfaces.
  • Handling regulated medical waste collection and disposal procedures.
  • Following safety procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment.
  • Keeping storage areas well-stocked, clean, and organized.
  • Notifying the supervisor of any repair needs.

Position Requirements
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience: 1 year of experience in a custodial position

Skills: Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to read and understand blueprints, plans and drawings. Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs. Ability to work on ladders and step stools. A valid driver's license is required. Basic cleaning techniques. Attention to detail.
