As an Equipment Operator with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, you will be integral to maintaining the safety and efficiency of our roadways, particularly during the demanding winter season when snow removal is crucial. Your responsibilities will not only include snow plowing but also extend to various construction projects, where your expertise significantly influences the infrastructure and safety of the traveling public. In your role, you will operate heavy machinery while also being responsible for performing minor repairs and conducting routine maintenance on your equipment and vehicles. Additionally, you will maintain detailed records by completing daily logs and reports that track equipment usage and maintenance history. This meticulous documentation is essential for ensuring operational efficiency and promoting accountability within the team. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours vary from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM; Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
- Hours may vary dependent upon operational needs.
- Overtime may be required.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Graduation from a Commercial Driver's License Training School; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
- This position requires possession of a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.
- All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.
- Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
- Certain positions require operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
