POSITION: Assistant Principal

LOCATION: Westover High School

JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Principal serves as a key instructional and operational leader dedicated to advancing the mission and vision of the school and district. Under the direction of the Principal, the Assistant Principal supports the development of a safe, inclusive, and academically rigorous learning environment where all students can thrive. This role provides strategic leadership in instructional improvement, student support, staff development, and school operations, while fostering positive relationships among students, staff, families, and the community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Master's Degree in Education is required; higher degree is preferred;
  2. Must hold or be eligible for the appropriate Georgia Leadership Certification in the area of Educational Leadership;
  3. Five years of progressively responsible experience in education as a classroom teacher, counselor, instructional coach or other certified position;
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and the Board may find appropriate.

  2. Ability to relate to a diverse group of people and to observe, listen, and provide leadership which results in the best possible teaching and learning atmosphere;
  3. Strong decision-making ability, problem-solving skills, proven performance and resource management skills;
  4. Ability to effectively lead, organize, and direct the work of others;
  5. Ablity to develop implement, monitor, and evaluate program goals and initiatives;
  6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  7. Ability to exercise strict confidence in handling sensitive information;
  8. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructional Leadership
  1. Assist the Principal in designing, implementing, and monitoring high-quality instructional programs aligned with district goals and statestandards;
  2. Support teachers through classroom observations, coaching, and feedback to enhance instructional practice;
  3. Analyze assessment data to identify trends and guide instructional planning and intervention;
  4. Promote professional learning that supports innovation,instructional excellence, and student engagement.
School Culture and Climate
  1. Foster a safe, supportive, and positive school culture where students and staff feel valued and respected;
  2. Lead and model restorative practices, PBIS, and social-emotional learning initiatives;
  3. Build partnerships with families and community stakeholders to enhance the school experience.
Operational Management
  1. Support daily school operations, including supervision of facilities, transportation, and safety procedures;
  2. Assist in the organization and supervision of student registration, scheduling, and testing programs;
  3. Coordinate student discipline in alignment with district policy, ensuring fairness, consistency, and due process;
  4. Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with district, state, and federal reporting requirements.
Human Capital Leadership
  1. Assist in recruiting, mentoring, evaluating, and developing school personnel;
  2. Contribute to building a strong professional learning community focused on collaboration and accountability;
  3. Support and model ethical leadership consistent with the Georgia Code of Ethics for Educators.
Other Responsibilities
  1. Serve as the acting Principal in the absence of the Principal;
  2. Represent the Principal and school at district meetings, community events, and professional gatherings as assigned;
  3. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.

REPORTS TO: Principal

SALARY RANGE: Competitive salary and excellent benefits package, in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide.
