Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner: Family Health

Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner: Family Health (1099)
Pay rate: $66.00 per hour (1099).
Location: Mike O’Callaghan Military Medical Center (MOMMC) Nellis AFB, NV.
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, typically 8 hours days 7:00am-5:00pm (hours may vary).
Qualifications:
- Degree/Education: Be a graduate Physician Assistant qualified by academic and practical education to provide patient services as a physician extender under supervision of a physician. Be a graduate of a Physician Assistant Training Program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), or its predecessors, and acceptable to the Surgeon General, USAF, is mandatory. – OR – Must have successfully completed all education and training requirements leading to and graduated from an accredited national, state or military equivalent school (MSN or DNP degree) for Nurse Practitioner (Family and/ or Geriatric Specialty)
- Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support: The HCW shall hold and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications using American Heart Association or client guidelines. Members must present proof of current certification(s) through American Heart Association or client. Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Committee on Certification Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required.
- Experience: Have at least 24 months of experience as a Physician Assistant within the last 36 months – OR – Successful completion of an accredited MSN or DNP Nurse Practitioner (Family and/or Geriatric Specialty). Have at least 24 months of experience as a Nurse Practitioner within the last 36 months. Outpatient experience highly preferred though not required.
- Board Certification: Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistants (NCCPA) –OR – Must hold a Nurse Practitioner certification from either the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
- Licensure/Registration: For positions involving patient care, candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted Physician Assistant license to practice in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States – OR – Must have and maintain throughout course of contract, a current, active, valid, unrestricted license (with no limitations, stipulations or pending adverse actions) to practice as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) from a US jurisdiction.
Duties:
- Strongly preferred working knowledge of the military health care system including TRICARE health benefits.
- Shall provide outpatient health care to qualifying beneficiaries as scheduled by the Government.
- Care shall include but not be limited to continuing, comprehensive health maintenance and medical care to entire family regardless of sex, age, or type of problem.
- Will maintain a program of comprehensive health for the family unit, to include preventive medicine, behavioral sciences, and community health.
- Provides primary or specialty medical care with the cognizance or supervision of a physician.
- Responsible for a regularly appointed clinic, compatible with workload and, in addition, provide immediate evaluation and management of emergent problems as they occur. Shall have the capability to:
- Collect and record, in proper format, medical and social historical data appropriate to the patient's condition.
- Perform a general physical examination.
- May become the primary care manager for a panel of patients. As a PCM, will be the primary person responsible for the management of the health and wellness of assigned patients. Duties include:
- Examination of patients, formulation differential diagnostic plans, defines and orders required diagnostic testing.
- Interpretation of examination findings and test results, and implementation of treatment plans.
- Determines need for consultation and assists in medical care and treatment provided at the direction of other specialists.
- Approving/disapproving subspecialty referrals.
- Answering patient telephone consults with the assistance of clinic staff.
- Providing primary and secondary preventive maintenance care.
- Admit inpatients as per the local MTF instructions.
- Recognize those more complicated cases, initiate treatment (if appropriate), and refer to a higher level of medical expertise for diagnosis and/or treatment.
- Ensures compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment facility. Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries.
- Plan and initiate proper treatment within defined privileges and the scope of practice of the facility.
- Identify and report those situations and individual cases which have public health significance and carry out effective control measures.
- Clearly communicate to other health personnel either orally or in writing the findings, diagnosis, and planned treatment regimen.
- Stabilize and manage a patient in a medical or surgical emergency and/or transfer to physician care.
- Determine appropriate means of evacuation of emergency patients, prepare patients for evacuation, and arrange for evacuation support.
- Perform the following blocks: Digital, Local Infiltration, and Intercostal
- Perform urological procedures.
- Maintain inpatient and outpatient medical records in accordance with MTF procedures.
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization. Effectively uses appropriate communication format in addressing professional issues.
- Excellent oral communication skills for patient/family education and telephone triage of patients. Telephone and in-person assessment/evaluation includes the determination of optimal time and location for patient management (ER, clinic, homecare) and follow-up care as required. Prescribes and communicates treatment plans and patient teaching in accordance with established protocols. Collects and assesses significant patient history information and performs all necessary patient teaching.
- Excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both written and electronic, of all activity, including telephone contacts, in accordance with requirements.
- Participates in the orientation and training of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate.
- May be required to work various shifts or augment clinical provider support during the absence of other team providers due to illness, leave or deployment.
